Had a great birthday today.
It started off with rain, as usual. (It's rare when February 19 arrives with no precipitation. It's happened maybe four or five times in the last 48 years.)
My morning DJ played a favourite song of mine that is hardly ever played, even on the satellite radio station that would most likely play it. (For the record, Larry the Duck played "Warm Leatherette" on First Wave this morning. It was just a coincidence, but it felt like the universe was making good things happen for me.)
As if that weren't enough, the piped-in music at Wal-Mart happened to include another favourite song of mine while I was grocery shopping, "My Ever-Changing Moods" by The Style Council. That just seemed weird. Wal-Mart doesn't usually play that type of music. So, chalk that up to the universe aligning again.
Then in another store I wanted some dried cilantro that was up on a high shelf and behind a column (seriously, why do grocery stores do that?) and a lady who worked there decided to help me, even though they were understaffed and there were a hundred other things she could have been doing.
I didn't have birthday cake today, but I bought myself some two-bite brownies to have as a cake-like birthday treat. There were four in the package and I ate two, which was 180 calories. I enjoyed them, but they didn't taste nearly as good as I thought they would. (That might not sound like a happy point to make, but it is really. It means my tastes have changed and I'm not likely to crave brownies at any time in the future.)
DH was unable to to have a birthday dinner with me, as he had to go for his weekly appointment with the personal trainer, but my friend sent me a birthday message and offered to take me out to dinner when she found out DH couldn't. So I had a lovely dinner out at a local restaurant, one where I know what food is good to eat and how much of it I can have. And my friend did not tell the waitstaff it was my birthday, so I DIDN'T have to listen to them sing to me while I wore a funny hat. (Other people in the restaurant were not so lucky. A lot of birthdays in February, it seems.)
Tomorrow night we have a fancy dinner out with friends at a gourmet restaurant in Toronto. I will eat lightly (but well) for the beginning part of the day, so I can enjoy a good meal. I hope I can stay within my calorie budget, but if I go over a bit, I will not worry. I will just try to get a bit more exercise in if I can, and eat at the lower end of my range for a few days after.
So, all-in-all, it's been quite a good birthday!
