Large stone in left Ureter
Monday, February 18, 2013
A little over two weeks ago, I came down with a bladder infection.
Woke up around 5:30am with tremendous cramps and couldn't pee. We went to ER and I wound up with a catheter to relieve the pressure.
After 100 or so ml went into the bag, a young Doctor came in and said my bladder was empty and 'after they take out the catheter, I could go home'.
When I told the nurse I had two beers and a lot of water the night before and there should be more urine, she agreed.
Then I remembered I had kidney stones in '04. The Doctor ordered a CT scan of my kidneys and discovered a large stone in my left ureter.
A Urologist decided that since I had a bladder infection (which later tests showed I never had), he would put a stent into my ureter and leave the kidney stone till the infection cleared.
I spent two days in the hospital.
Last week I went back to the Operating room to have the stone lasered into small pieces. Then I was sent home.
Denise has been by my side throughout this ordeal.
For weeks after my L5 - S1 microdiscectomy in June '12, when I had pain in my back, we thought the operation wasn't effective.
That pain in my left back is now GONE! My Surgeon didn't know why I still had pain after that surgery.
So, I strongly recommend if you have back pain, have your kidneys checked.
When I had previous MRIs of my L5 - S1, the imaging never went up high enough to check my kidneys.
Denise and I are surviving this beautiful New England weather.
