January results

I made good progress in January.

Weight loss - 5 pounds

Inches lost - 1 inch off chest and hips, now in the 30's for both. Goal is to lose 3 more in both areas, hoping to do this by the end of August. 1/2 inch off waist - with many more to go. emoticon It's my stubborn area. 1/2 inch off my thighs.

Energy level greatly improved. Most days I wake up excited and ready to go.

Stress levels are generally very low, quite a change from my working years when I was in a high stress job. My doctor kept encouraging me to find a way to change that, and I was able to retire early a couple of years ago.

Blood sugar - typically in January below 115, with it being more and more at the 100 level during the latter part of the month. At my doctor's visit on 1/23. my A1C number had dropped almost 2 points. My doctor wants it down another .5 point. It's just a matter of time, but I think it will go lower than that.

Blood pressure - typically now below 120/80. This was what my doctor was most worried about as before SP I had a hard time getting below 160/100, even with meds.

Exercise - has become a part of my life. In January, I exercised 28 out of 31 days, with a couple of those being 15-20 minutes when I felt I needed a break. My average workout was 52 minutes, with the amount increasing during the month. I added in swimming to my routine this month. I am really enjoying exercising more than I have in a long time.

I joined the Low Glycemic Team this month and am about to read a couple of books on the subject. I think it will be my answer for the rest of my life.

I think the most important change is how good and happy I feel. My husband comments on it almost daily, and has actually made some important changes for himself. He started exercising with me this month, and he's more and more eating the way I do - meaning lots of chicken and fish, and lots of vegetables.

I was having a lot of trouble sleeping, lucky to get 5 hours a night, during most of January. That is starting to come around. If I can get that under control, it will make a major difference. Late at night is when I start getting into food I shouldn't, probably out of frustration. I have gotten better though.

February will be a fun month. My son, his wife, and her sister are coming to visit in 2 weeks, along with our "grandpuppy" (a very cute pug). Right after that, we are off for a 2+ week vacation. My hope is to continue to exercise and eat well during all this fun, but the emphasis will be on the fun. emoticon

    Terrific accomplishments! You have really made some big changes and you are sticking with them. It is so nice to see my husband picking up some of my lifestyle changes too. It makes it easier to move forward with your plan. emoticon
