Coming back from the flu

Saturday, January 05, 2013

This was a very different holiday season - I spent most of it in bed with a flu like illness. I can't remember being that sick for that long since I was a kid.
Does this mean I now have a built in resistance to the flu - or does it mean I should start getting a flu shot?

I had the Hong Kong flu in the mid 70's, the Type A flu in the late 80's, the Asian flu somewhere in there also. I got a flu shot in 1992 and was fine - but then developed fear to get it again. I finally with tears in my eyes got the flu shot Jan. 7th with the Pharmacist help to get me through it. I am not afraid anymore and will now continue to get it each year. I also got the pneumonia shot two weeks later. I am 71 and it is time to do these things! Yes, I think you should get the flu shot each year especially with how bad it was this particular year. They say you still can get it - it is never to late...

Glad you are getting better. Lots of people I know have the flu like symptoms also.

I am glad you are better. I always get a flu shot. We have had colds here and sinus infection but better now. Our houseguest had the flu and did not get a flu shot. He was much sicker than dh and I.

So glad you're feeling better. I always get a flu shot because it is mandatory for my work. My husband just got his today at Walgreens. As other's have said it is a personal decision.

I never get a flu shot. Never have the flu. My 90 yr old mother has never had one either. Never gets the flu. Having said that, it can only be YOUR decision. Our bodies are all so different. I had the flu like you're describing about 40 years ago, in the month of March. Really, really ill. Every year after that, for about 3 years, in March, I had the flu again, only a much milder case each year. Haven't had it since. Weird huh?

And that's a long way of saying "I don't know the answer to the flu shot question."

I'm really happy you're better, Mo. I've missed you on our forum.

So sorry you were sick. I think it is a personal opinion. I never get a flu shot...and I have not had the flu or anything in YEARS...dh and I are fanatics about hand sanitizer though and wahing hands...I always get that question right on spark but I don't agree with it. It is sure your choice but I don't trust all the vaccines they push on us...and neither does my doctor!

I agree with Vista. I get one every year, and I don't remember when I have had the flu.
Even Spark has that a question on Trivia. Flu shots are the answer.
