Mental muscle!

I'm really good at building the physical kind. I thought I was good at the mental kind, too. Alas, I came within 21 pounds of square one! Oh my! Much too close for comfort!

When I feel stress, more than any other feeling, I'm likely to overeat. Even though I know this, stress has gotten the best of me, within 21 pounds of square one. Too dang close!

As I continue on this journey to a healthier me, I've learned that it's good to have people
in your real world who are in your corner. Finding your support online is great, no doubt about it. But you can't spend all your time online. It's far too sedentary, at least for me.

My three children have been greatly supportive, even though they are in elementary and middle school. I can always count on at least one of them to join me for a walk or to find healthy foods to snack on.

I've also learned that you sometimes have people in your life who want you be healthy, but don't know how to support you in a 'productive' way. Not everyone is empathetic and able to support in a positive way. It's up to me to speak up and be clear about what I need, and be strong enough to filter out things I don't need.

Building the mental muscle to carry me through is my biggest challenge. Learning to understand myself better, and the people I allow into my world is important. Improving my personal filter - by understanding the messenger as well as the message.

In the end, my success depends on me. It begins and ends with me.
