A new running milestone

Today I ran 23 miles.
I feel I need to say that again as I am not sure it has really sunk in - I DID IT! I RAN 23 miles! The entire time. I NEVER thought I would utter those words until I signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon and then I KNEW that one day I would say that.
Well today is that day.
The morning started out uneventful. I ate my normal oatmeal pre-run breakfast and headed out. It was relatively cool but 95% humidity. Overcast for the majority of the morning and even had a few sprinkles. Everything was going fairly well.
The hills were numerous - I live in a hilly area. By mile 18 the sun popped out and I was feeling done. My feet were hurting......wondering if my shoes may need to be replaced. Note to self - make a stop at the running store next week to ask a couple of questions.
I was sweating like crazy and thinking there is no way I am going to make it to 23 miles. Then I said - what a minute what are you thinking? Do you know how many people would love to run? I sucked it up and dug deep. With one mile left the song "For You" by Keith Urban came on. It is from the movie Act of Valor. It was perfect timing. Because it gets me to my core every time and I know what I would do in that situation. I also know what so many others have done and they are the reasons I run.
By the grace of God and my own stubbornness and training I completed a fairly uneventful run. It took me a little longer than I had hoped but that is what a LSD is about - going a little slower.
4 hours and 32 min = 23 miles
