It Seems I Never Stop Discovering Things About Me!

So for the last 28 days, I have been working hard on the Sparkpeople 28 Day Boot Camp Video. I have followed every minute of the program, and have crosstrained on every day "off" the program gives. I feel great, despite the fact that the weight has not come off, in fact, it has gone up. I have some theories about that, and this blog is not about it anyway..
So today, day 28, is the day that I have been both looking forward to and dreading at the same time. Looking forward to it because it represents 4 straight weeks of daily exercise, a streak I haven't seen the likes of in years. Dreading because it was a 60 minute exercise session, and I was very concerned that first, I wouldn't have time to do it because I have to exercise in the morning, and also was afraid of because, well, 60 minutes is a LONG time!!
So worried about running out of time was I that I decided I was going to change up my morning routine. So I dragged myself out of bed this morning, and immediately changed into my workout clothes. I went downstairs, and poured myself a big glass of warm water and put a teaspoon of lemon juice in it and gulped it down (gag me, gag me, gag me, but that's my way of trying to flush my system because this weight gain thing is really, really bothering me). I popped onto the computer and quickly checked my email and spun the SparkPoints wheel (lest I forget and break my 175 day streak). And then, without coffee, I turned the TV on and put in that DVD.
I dragged my way through the warm up, and through the first 15 minutes of the total body challenge. I was groggy, sore, and totally unmotivated. I wanted to stop like a thousand times. Finally,. about 15 minutes into the workout, I got my bearings and did okay, but let me tell you, it was the hardest day I've had on this program.
So what did I learn? That I have to have that cup of coffee and wake up time in the morning before I exercise. What a huge difference I felt for not having had my half hour of wake up time before exercising. This was a real epiphany for me, because I used to get up and exercise first thing years ago. Just another example of how we change through the years, of how we must always stop and listen to our bodies.
As with just about everything else, nothing stays the same, and we have to be totally willing to listen, watch, and adjust. Adjust. Adjust. Nothing wrong with trying to stick to routine, but we must be willing to recognize when the routine is not working and we have to change it up. I think that is why sticking with the Boot Camp DVD was so do-able for me, because every day is different.
So no matter your program, remember, when you feel like your body is trying to tell you something, slow down and listen, or think about what is going on. Perhaps it's time to change things up a bit!!
Have a Sparky Day!!
