Following a craving through to the end...

Good afternoon friends!

I've been skipping the cookies for a couple of days now, focusing on eating a higher quality of food for a snack. No surprise that my cravings are much lower now. I know I've had this "aha" moment before, but this is a learning process...maybe I'm just learning this slowly!

I read something this morning in a devotional that AA uses, which I'm going to try to use when I find myself having a craving for junk...it went something like "follow the drink through to the end"...or in my case "follow the craving through to the end".

So mine would look like this...if I eat a serving or half a serving of cookies, I just might want another serving and another, until the bag is gone...and then I just might head on over to some pretzels....because everyone knows you have to eat salty after you eat sweet...and then I might need something sweet again...and then the next day I'll feel sick and bloated and disgusted with myself...and the next time I get on the scale it won't have moved in the right direction...and then I'll try to sacrifice calories so I can make up the difference. Or I'll workout extra the next day to make up for the snacking...

So following a craving through to the end...might help me put that craving into perspective...and maybe it won't be such a struggle to have just one.

    Not me anymore. I have changed to low carb/paleo type of eating and have no cravings at all.

    LOL, yep, sounds like me for sure. Now, after all the sweets and salty from the trip, have to get back to none as I know I can't stop at one of those either. Thanks for the reminder!

    Thanks for posting this perspective. I may help me as well! It's been a week full of eating junk ~ sweet and salty ~ and I have to say, I just wanted more. So it's back to cleaner, healthier eating for me soon!

    Interesting way of looking at it. A craving is such a PRESENT (now) thought and feeling. It doesn't look past the immediate "I want ITEM" to the results of getting ITEM.

    Making ourself look at an action in terms of FUTURE consequences and results can put it into much better perspective.
