2012-Not About Losing Weight

Thursday, January 05, 2012

After a much needed hiatus from Spark, here we are in 2012. The first year my new year's resolution has not been to lose weight. Instead, my goals include trying a body pump class. Running a sub 30 minute 5k. I'm not sure what took me so long, but something finally clicked. I've been doing instead of talking/thinking/dreaming. I may not be at my ultimate goal weight, but I am stronger, happier, healthier. Counting calories may be effective, but it's not my thing. Focusing on foods I want to eat because they make me feel good is easier. Finding classes I enjoy taking at the gym is easier than making myself hit the dreadmill. It may be hard at first, but will become habit if you keep at it.

If you are a person who lets the scale dictate how you feel, throw it out. It's a tool, one of many, and if it doesn't work for you, find a new one. I now measure my weight based on how my clothes fit and weigh myself at doctor's appointments only. It's made me much more in tune with my body and I have now maintained my weight since July, something I have never done before!

Let's make this a positive year. Don't get so sucked into reading blogs and message boards and earning points that you forget to get off that computer and go for a walk. :o)
