Talk about some weird news...

For several years now I have suffered from stomach and bowel issues, and always just assumed it was something I couldn't do anything about. I had never really worried too much about it, since my symptoms are annoying but don't prevent me from living normally. But last week I finally decided to find out what was happening. I went to a natural clinic and after some blood tests they determined I have a really rare food intolerance... to FRUIT! I was floored. Not only floored, but completely discouraged: with my vegan diet, how on earth am I supposed to eliminate FRUIT???
Not only am I intolerant to all the basic fruits, I also must now avoid wine (!!!); vinegar, citric acid and ascorbic acid (which are found in almost every processed food out there, including condiments); avocado; and even olives and olive oil. Even cashews are a fruit since they apparently grow on a tropical fruit tree! So now I am down to only eating grains, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. At least I can still drink beer!
The doctor did say that the intolerance may go away if I fix the problem, so I am also taking supplements to help improve my digestion. They want to re-test in 6 months; that is a LONG TIME to avoid all fruits! At this point I am going to try it for a while and see how it goes. I suppose it will help me get back to really reading labels and tracking my food. I really hope the benefits outweigh the drawbacks!
