I am doing the Run Your Way to a 5K and am in week 4...so this week we up it a big notch...last week was run, jog, trot... 4 minutes, walk 1, for 35-40 minutes total...That was tough...but I did it...so THIS week imagine my surprise when I see that the plan calls for me to run for 35 minutes straight, NO WALKING!!! I almost quit right then!!!
I talked myself into trying, and doing it, the ENTIRE run...my self-talk went something like "ok, you can walk at any point just do what you can, my legs are burning, but they always do at first, it'll pass, oh, this is SO NOT FUN, I HATE this!, my nose is running, how do I blow my nose while running?...ok, 1/3 of the time gone, that wasn't too bad, let's try 2/3...now my foot hurts, I'm gonna stop, NOOO....keep going...you are strong...you can do this...you'll feel so good when you've finished...you've got a nice lunch and a big glass of water waiting when you are finished....this is torture...why am I doing this? I want to say I can do a 5k...I want to challenge my body...maybe I'm stronger than I think? I'm not a quitter!!!". You'd have thought I was doing a triathalon....
But I did it!!
IT WAS NOT PRETTY!!! My legs and feet hurt so bad it was difficult to get to sleep last night...but I'm feeling pretty good this morning...moving slow...but good. I peeked at next week's plan...I only have to run 30 minutes each day? Huh? THIS IS AS HARD AS IT'S GONNA GET...so glad I pushed myself!
