A record-breaking week

Thanks to all of you who have been so supportive of me for the last few years, and especially over the last 4 months.
Life behind the scenes hasn't exactly been easy for me, but I was determined to stop complaining and do something, and that something turned out to be bicycle commuting. I studied and planned, and finally made my first move on May 20, 2011, National Bike to Work Day. I was successful that day, and at the end of it, I wanted to do more.
The first few weeks, I managed to go 2-3 days (4-6 trips) a week. After a while, 4 days a week (7-8 trips) got to be a pretty regular thing. The weather was sometimes a factor in how many trips I would be able to complete: rain doesn't bother me, but thunderstorms do. This past week, I reached a major milestone: for the first time ever, I commuted entirely on my bicycle, all 10 trips! I'm completely addicted.
In spite of all that effort (10 miles per trip or 20 per day), until this last week, I never lost ANY weight. Not one ounce. Zip! Still, I loved it. Biking made me happy: literally.
Until about a year ago, I was following the calorie and nutrient ranges suggested by Sparkpeople, and I wasn't losing. I consulted a dietitian, who suggested reducing my overall calorie intake to a nearly-impossible sounding 1200-1300 per day. She also suggested that while staying within that calorie range, I reduce my fat intake to a mere half the level suggested by Sparkpeople. And that was after taking into consideration my high starting weight, and my then considerable level of exercise. I tried it briefly, and then succumbed to the stress of holding the fort while my husband was in Iraq. I got careless and gained back some weight.
Back to 4 months ago. I reduced my food intake to about 1300 calories, but I didn't lose. I still believed that all calories were essentially created equal. I was wrong. A couple of weeks ago, I met with my dietitian again. She confirmed that my overall calorie intake was at an appropriate level, but she suggested reducing my fat intake from an average of 37 grams per day to just 22 grams per day, and make up the calorie difference with protein. I've been doing that pretty consistently ever since, and I've already dropped 5 pounds.
So there you have it. Two record-breaking achievements this week: I commuted entirely by bicycle, and I lost 5 pounds.
