I THINK I'M BACK FOR A WHILE - AT LEAST I HOPE SO!!!

I've been MIA off & on for several months - when I could sign on, it was for such a limited time, I'd post on the Chat Room for one team, log my water intake, & sign out (or lose connection!).
First I didn't have Internet. So I'd try to get on with my BlackBerry, which didn't always help, or once in a while I'd head to a local WiFi. Then I moved, & had Internet with my rent, but I never managed to ask my landlord for the key when I'd see him.....
Then came lots of pain - I've known for a while that I would need my left knee replaced, & my left shoulder was diagnosed as a 60% torn rotator cuff (both were advanced a lot by the multiple falls I had at my mom's house, but praise God, I haven't fallen since November!). My doc ordered a brace for my knee, which helped make it much better, so I started planning to have my rotator cuff repaired, which would have ended up with little ability to post much again, since I've typed by touch for over 50 years, & I have a real problem when I have to pick with one hand!
Unfortunately (for my pain level), my doc wouldn't do the shoulder first - he said I'd be totally unable to use my left arm for at least 2 weeks - that I wouldn't even be able to put my knee brace on, because it takes 2 hands (I live alone, don't have anyone who could come over & help me get dressed every day). So I scheduled my knee surgery.
Surgery was 6/28 - I was in the hospital for 3 days, & transferred to a nursing home with a rehab unit for 15 days. I didn't have inpatient rehab with my right knee almost 9 years ago, so I didn't know personally what was in store for me (though as an RN, I kinda knew what would be.....). All I can say is WOW! I didn't get started on intense PT immediately, since I got there on Thurs. evening before the 4th of July (I won't make that mistake again!). I did some therapy from Fri. through Sun., but it started in earnest on Mon. It took a couple of days to get assigned to the same therapist (who, by the way, was a tough taskmaster!), & she really pushed me. By the time I left there & went home, I had already almost met all of my goals as far as bending (flexion) & straightening (extension) my knee!
I came home on 7/15 & started outpatient PT on 7/22 - they were impressed at my progress, especially since I went a week without therapy (though I kept doing my home exercise program). In fact, my doc had ordered PT 3 x weekly - but I was so far along, that they only had me come 2 x weekly (or the insurance wouldn't have paid them, since I didn't need that much help). I had a total of 4 weeks (9 visits), & was released on 8/19 with instructions to continue my home exercise program.
I'm now 8 weeks post op - I put my walker in storage 2 weeks ago, & now I only use my cane when I'm out in public, etc. I haven't used anything at home since I returned home (of course, Iive in a small efficiency, so there's no room to be able to fall! lol), & I don't use my cane going to & from the car or at church, etc. - only when shopping. Of course, I still use an electric cart when there's one available at grocery stores, etc., because my knee still gets faatigued if I walk very far. Several people at church have been telling me for weeks that I shouldn't be doing this well!
I give God the glory for my rapid recuperation - He provided me with a fantastic surgeon & excellent therapists. I only wish I could have had such good provisions when I had my right knee done!
But there's one other reason for my progress - my 50 year high school reunion is in exactly 2 months, & I want to be able to dance when I go! I don't see me having a date, but maybe I can still find a dance partner or two sometime during the party!
So to get back to my being MIA, I now have the key for the Internet at home, & I don't have problems getting online. And no more surgery for a while (though my shoulder is extremely painful, I'm going to schedule it for the week after I return from my reunion - I don't want a broken wing when I go. So at least for now, only pain will prevent me from doing things).
As a result, I've started doing our team prayer emails for the Christian Women with Chronic Pain, etc. again - & I now get online basically every day. I want to be a leader in every way again, so I hope not to be MIA again for a while (of course, I'll probably skip a few days for my reunion, & I was just reminded by a weather update that there's a tropical storm headed for S. FL, which could also interrupt things).
I'm also trying to be better about my eating program - I lost weight while I was in rehab, & I hope to keep that train going!
Thanks for reading my blog - be blessed, my brothers & sisters!
