End of juice fast
Monday, July 18, 2011
I feel really great after my weekend juice fast. I feel energetic and alive.
Strangely enough, I did not go through the fast thinking, " As soon as this is over, I will sink my teeth into a big juicy burger (or something equally juicy)." I went through my fast thanking God for His amazing providence and the great foods He has created for us to enjoy. The vegetable and fruit juices I was drinking tasted like heaven.
Have you ever marveled at the fact that a carrot has just the right amount of sugar? Have you ever appreciated the wonderful colours of fresh fruits and vegetables? How can we go through life never appreciating the creator of these wonderful gifts.
I have to share with you one of my discoveries of the weekend - the kind of juice that makes you burst into songs of praise (literally). I call it heaven in a glass:
2 granny smith apples
1 small lemon.
Remember to peel the lemon before chopping and putting everything in a juicer. Check out the recipe on Spark recipes. Please try it out and let me know what you think.
I had a lot of quiet time during my fast and I thank God for the chance to do that. Things have been very busy at the office and I needed some time to recharge. I also gave my digestive system a much needed break.
Fasting may not be for everyone, even though I have read that there are many health benefits associated with fasting. But it is definitely something for me and if you feel called to do it, give it a try. But before you do, read, read, read. There is loads of information about fasting/juice fasting on the internet. It is good to be prepared. If you are a Christian, read your bible too.
I have also learnt that the most tricky part of fasting is breaking the fast. This should be done slowly and thoughtfully, otherwise you will make yourself sick.
I can't wait for my next fast.
