Another quick update, yet still kind of long..

Friday, July 08, 2011

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I posted a blog. Three weeks!? Crazy how time flies! I feel like I was just getting those first pictures in my last blog, and now I'm counting down the last few days of my first trimester! WOW! Time flies!

I don't really have much to update. A LOT has been going on, but not much I can/want to post about here. I passed my certification test yesterday--woohoo!--so that's an extra $300 a year. Not a whole lot each month, but hey, basically free money! I just need to pass two more certifications, at $300 a year each, and then I get an additional $1200 a year (for passing four). THAT will be really nice.

I have court for my CASA kids on Tuesday. It's just an initial permanency hearing, but I don't feel prepared for it. I mean, I know all my information, but I don't feel like I can make a good-faith suggestion at this point. I guess that's the tough part about advocating for kids and wanting what's best for them. Of course I want the kids back with their parents, but what if that's the WRONG choice in the end? Oy, the moral dilemmas I face!

We also have court for my stepson on Tuesday. Bad timing much? We're thisclose to coming to an agreement, but it's been several months coming. We have to make a decision by 12noon today (it's 11:15am) or we're going to court on Tuesday. Nothing like a little pressure, right? It's not that I don't want to go to court, but our lawyer has been less-than-helpful recently and she told my husband today that she's not "prepared" to go to court on Tuesday so she would have to file for an extension. Basically I think she got lazy because she assumed we would settle outside of court and hasn't been doing her work. It's a bit ridiculous, but once everything is settled the poor kid can have a semi-normal life.

ALSO on Tuesday (notice a pattern) we have our next OB apointment! 12 week appointment already! Exciting! It won't be anything major and the OB won't do an ultrasound unless I want her to. Since I'm high risk from having a miscarriage before she's willing to give me as many u/s as I want, but at like $150 a pop I think I'll stick with only the ones insurance covers. We get another at 20 weeks so I can wait until then. I'm hoping once I hit 12ish weeks the doctor will release me for normal activity so I'm just inching along until I get there. (:

Next Friday we're going see Hairspray the musical. Sooo excited! A new theatre company opened in town and a friend of ours is playing one of the staring roles so we're excited to go see him! Then the next morning we'll head to the lake to enjoy my parents' lakehouse. Lucky ducks, they get a whole 10 days at the lake! Must be nice to be retired and semi-retired! We'll get to go back again the following weekend, but they get a whole week to relax and enjoy a giant empty lakehouse alone. Must be nice! But the house is super cool, we're excited to go. They have a pool table upstairs in the game room area (and a wet bar strangely enough) and they have a deck/porch thing on the rooftop of the house! I'll be sure to take some pictures! (:

I better wrap it up. It's already getting late and I'm off at 2:00 today so I need to finish working. I'll update next week after my OB appointment for sure! (:

Wow...lots going on with you and your family. Congrats on your pregnancy. You'll make the right decision for the kids you advocate for. Enjoy the lake house and good luck with everything else.

Can't wait to hear about your OB appointment! Good luck at court too! Sorry to hear about your attorney, nothing bugs me more than when you're paying someone to do something for you and they get lazy. Ugh! Have fun at the lake!
