Swimming the English Channel

I started the 8 week diabetes challenge at the beginning of June. So far I have managed to lose 7 lbs which is great. As those who have read my previous blogs will know that I love swimming and have a pool at home. However, as I am usually all alone in the pool it can get a bit boring. Then my lovely daughter and husband clubbed together and bought me a waterproof iPod. I have loaded it with several of my fav music albums (Lady Gaga, Mica and JLS are just a few) and have downloaded all the cd's from my French exercise books. I live in France and it is always a struggle to get it right. So now my swimming time passes so quickly as I get carried away singing my head off and speaking French to no-one in particular.
Having said that I felt that I needed a goal to increase my motivation to not only keep up with the exercise but to increase the duration. I checked out a web site called SwimFit and logged on. You set yourself a challenge of a virtual swim by choosing a stretch of water. I decided to swim a beautiful lake in England called Windermere which is 10 miles long. I completed that in just over 3 weeks so set myself another goal. I am now swimming the English Channel which is 22 miles across. I have just completed 19% so have a little way to go but it is quite something to bring up the map and see where you are in your challenge. When I have finished with the Channel I might tackle something further like the Atlantic. I can only try and see how far I get. Come on in, the water's fine.
