Basic Week 6, Super Bad

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

Yesterday I took a young lady, almost a daughter since she lived with me for a while, out for catch-up, a movie & lunch. It was a lovely time & I thought I was calorie splurging by checking out the new Longhorn restaurant. Turns out they have more healthy choices than most restaurants I frequent, so the big splurge was getting a steak, which I haven't had for a long time.

But then towards the end of the meal she told me she was expecting, and her mother was being her usual unsupportvie self, so we celebrated together & got dessert. Oh my. Longhorn's has this thing called the Chocolate Stampede, and it's one thing in the picture, you assume they're just showing you two of it, but when it comes to the table, it's just one person's dessert. It's ginormous. Even half of it is huge. I took 3/4 of it home. But the story doesn't end there. I finished it for dinner! So here's me not being deceptive to myself. My calories consumed yesterday were enough for the whole weekend.

I guess the true sign of progress is how bad I was sure I did and how badly I really didn't do. Looking back, I was under calories both of the other two days. And though I didn't put in the exercise I had originally wanted to this holiday weekend, I got some in each day. All last week I was great, lots of exercise & good food choices. In the past I'd feel I'd failed completely, but it was really just the one thing, and this sweet girl needed to have a little happiness/extravagance surrounding her news, since no one else was celebrating it with her.

Besides, I'm really really sick of chocolate now!

It's tough to be "good" all the time. The news was worth celebrating.

Hey sometimes it is okay to splurge a little bit and you had to celebrate with her! So you also took care of your chocolate craving for awhile.
