Still sick - but turning the corner???

Saturday, March 12, 2011

So, I have been sick since my birthday (Feb 21). My sweetie had the flu (he never got a flu shot). Two days later, I started feeling sick, but since I had a flu shot I wasn't as bad as him, but was having some different symptoms. Long story short, we both went to the clinic, saw different docs and were treated very differently. He was given antibiotics, 2 nebulizer treatments in the office, an albuterol inhaler and another steroid inhaler. Me? I was given nothing, told it was just viral and nothing I could do about it. The doc even told me it seemed I had the same thing as her and it would eventually turn into a cold (it never did!!!!). So, fast forward two weeks later, I'm still sick and getting worse. Its all in my chest, lots of coughing, etc. My sweetie - completely better. So on wednesday I went back to the clinic - made sure to see a different doctor. He gave me everything sweetie had been prescribed 2 weeks earlier. I started laughing, he asked why and I told him what happened the last time I was there and even told him what the other doctor had told me about it turning into a cold. Dr. F told me - "she took antibiotics!" I was so pissed!!!! Here I have been suffering for almost 3 weeks now and "she" took drugs to get better but wouldn't give me anything. I have not been able to do my usual exercise, barely getting in a very slow walk a few days each week. I still haven't even used my new Wii which I got for my birthday because by the time I do get home from work, I am exhausted and feeling pretty yucky.

So, now I hope I am turning around. Dr. F also gave me cough syrup w/codeine for my cough - so that has helped me fall asleep and I took some today as well to take a nap. I had a training this morning for 4 hours, was fighting exhaustion but got through it. I was supposed to then go to a lunch for sweetie's mom - he was cooking for her since she is going out of town for 6 weeks, but I had to back out. I knew that I just couldn't or shouldn't go with the way I was feeling. I came home and took a nap for 2 1/2 hours - still coughing, but I feel more rested.

I do not have any plans for tomorrow, so I am hoping one more good day of rest and the antibiotics, etc, that I will really start to feel better.

It is spring break at UNM, so my office closed for the week and I am off, which is really nice, but I do not want to spend the whole week sick. I have some serious spring cleaning I want to do, plus start using my Wii and get in some serious walks as well.

A good friend of mine is making corned beef and cabbage on St Patty's day, which I am really looking forward too - I haven't had any real good corned beef since my mom stopped making it. She's 81 and doesn't really cook anymore.

Well, that's my story for the moment - my diet and exercise have been terrible, but I am hoping that in a few days I will be turning that around.
