31 Days - March 2: Eat breakfast!!

Today, Spark tells us:
Eat breakfast. It boosts your energy, metabolism and mental focus. Plus, breakfast eaters consume fewer calories throughout the day than people who skip this meal.
I could not agree more that we need to eat breakfast. Our bodies, after all, are machines that need fuel...would your car start up on an empty tank of gas in the morning?? Of course not.
One interesting thing, and something that kept me "off breakfast" for many years. I found that if I DID NOT eat breakfast, I would not get hungry until lunch time..so I always believed it was better to eat fewer calories, so that is what I would do. HOWEVER, what I did not realize is that there is this thing called the hunger deficit..and once that hunger came, it became more and more ravenous as the day went on..so if you don't eat breakfast that hunger comes back a whole lot stronger at 4 in the afternoon than it would if you had eaten breakfast, and can't be satisfied. Weird how that works, but there is no doubt in my mind that it does!!
On the other hand, I find that if I eat breakfast, I AM hungry for a mid-day snack, I AM hungry for lunch, for a mid-afternoon snack, for dinner. But that hunger is satisfied, usually, with a reasonable amount of food. Whereas when the "hunger deficit" kind of hunger kicks in, I could eat everything in sight and never feel like I've had enough.
So my personal experience tells me that the recommendation that we eat our meals and small snacks is really on target, because even though you will get hungry using this eating model, you are more easily satisfied.. Just my 2 cents..
