Trying to Find Balance
Monday, February 28, 2011
I spent the first five weeks of the year faithfully logging my food and exercise. I worked my way into exercising every single day, usually for about an hour each day.
I then started working out even longer after work each day - some times for 2 hours. I stopped logging my food and exercise because I had no time or energy for that. And while I've lost 10 lbs. and feel really good about the direction I'm heading, I also realize that I need more balance in my life. This is especially true since I'm looking for long-term changes. I don't really want to spend the rest of my life exercising for 2 hours each night with no time to read, relax, or even spend much time with my family.
So, on February 25 I didn't work out -for the first time all year. I took the weekend off from counting calories and planning my workouts. Instead, I relaxed, finished a book I had been reading for far too long, and had a great weekend with my family. In spite of my plan to take a break from "being good" , I ended up being very active on Sunday (and had the sore muscles this morning to prove it!).
Tomorrow is March 1, and I'm getting myself focused again. I will make time to log my food each day because even though I'm making good food choices, logging will keep me on track. I'll also get back to exercising, but it's time to get more strength training in and limit the amount of time I dedicate to exercise each day. I'll make sure I give myself time to do the things I had been missing.
Until I find a way to have more hours in the day, I'll need to find a way to keep my life as balanced as possible.
