Yep, that's what they called this today. A fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation and close to home. So what the heck, I decided I needed to get out and do it. Of course, we've been having mild temps this past week but not today. 39 degrees at race time at 1 p.m. Brrrrrrrrr...............
However, I'm really proud to say my darling husband joined us with the intent of trying to see how he would do actually trying to find his niche and go with it. For a guy who has just recently started to move with me, he's already surpassed me. He got out there today, with having done nothing in weeks and ended up completing in just over 36 minutes which equates out to just under 12 minute miles. Understand, the man is a chihuahua. Tall, thin, and hates the cold so for him to have decided yesterday to join me, put me into shock! LOL
I'm very proud of him and now to acquire additional cold weather items to keep him moving.
I had decided to call a young friend, Robin, to see if she'd like to join me. We started walking a little over a year ago but this past summer, with the heat and our schedules, we had a hard time connecting. I was working on a bit more jog/walk and knew she wasn't interested in that, or so I thought. Today she shows up and says, you want to try to jog? I nearly fainted but sure, let's do it. Seems she got a new dog that has kept her going and I think pulling her a bit so she's been trying a bit more. Plus she is tall and has those knees that she knows are prone to having arthritis one day so continuing to move is a good thing. SO I let her set the pace. I'd get a little ahead and then she'd catch up, etc. Oh yea, ran into another lady I knew from my Sew Much Comfort group that was there solo so she hung with us. She too in her mid 50's starting to jog/walk to get her health under control.
So it was fun, we did warm up after we got going. At least there was no rain but there were some fun entries. Here's one of them!
A photo of all the sea of red and of course all had jingle bells tied to our shoes and such. Made it a lot of fun indeed.
Here is Janet and I coming up on the finish line.
And last but not least, Robin right behind us. All of us under 45 minutes.
Overall another good day. I did over 3 miles on the treadmill before the 5k, did the 5k, and we had to walk about a mile to get from the car to the location to the start and then I did another couple of miles tonight on the treadmill. Another 10+ mile day. A good weekend indeed.
