So I mentioned it before - NaNoWriMo?

Saturday, November 06, 2010

Hi Gang -

November has a slightly different challenge for me. It's National Novel Writing Month, a 30-day challenge to write a 50,000 word novel.

Along with the challenge, it is also a fundraiser that helps the supporting organization - The Office of Letters and Lights - raise money and awareness to sustain reading programs and libraries around the world.

I've participated in four previous years, winning (writing 50K words) in three of them. Last year I had to pass, thanks to Graduate School. This year my husband is also participating; his first time!

While I do not intend to ever edit or submit this work for publishing, there are some individuals that make that happen. There's a fella in our local region that has a book that will be released this month, in fact, if the editor wills it. Me, I just like to write. I don't really tell any stories. NaNoWriMo simply gives me the reason and venue to do something that many of us never do.

As you might imagine, it can be fun, exciting and downright daunting to tackle this challenge. Being under the influence of cold drugs certainly doesn't help, LOL! IT does, however, give me something to do until I feel well enough to workout again.

My numbers are a bit behind, but I made up a good chunk of word count today. I'm hoping for the same tomorrow. And that, my SparkFriends, is what I am up to these days!

Now that's what I call a challenge. Congrats on your past wins.
I'll have to check out the Office of Letters and Lights later today - my grandma worked in a library and taught us a love of reading, and the importance of it in our lives.

What a fascinating challenge. I don't know if I could pull a novel out of me.

Very interesting challenge!! My son writes books. I never have. I took a creative writing class in college but novels seemed rather daunting to me.

I hope you get rid of the cold soon. This year is turning out to be a bad one for viruses.

This encouraged me not only to get back on track on SP but with my writing. I love to write, not necessarily to publish, but just to write. I'm checking out that web site.

That is awesome! I can't even keep a journal because the minute I sit down to write, I go completely blank.

NaNoWriMo, Awesome. I love to write but thought of 50k words.....I probaly use up to many words in the day to have any left for the page. Glad your feeling a bit better. Don't know how you even think about workouts.
    Good luck in all areas.

I think your challenge is a fabulous one and I certainly support the cause. Writing is a huge challenge but you must feel very satisfied on completion.
