A little birthday indulgence
Friday, September 10, 2010
I indulged big time for my birthday. I don't even feel one bit bad about it. I thoroughly enjoyed my large portion of tortellini with pesto at lunch. I savored every bite of my grilled salmon salad with goat cheese and candied walnuts for dinner, and I was in heaven sharing the mud shark porter dark chocolate cheesecake and caramel topped carrot cake with friends. I went over by 650 calories. Oh, well. As long as I don't make excuses to do this for every little thing that comes up it really is ok. I can eat at the low end of my calorie range until I've made up for the extra calories from today. I know there will still be some late birthday 'treats' appearing, but I don't have to eat them. I can say thank you and wait until later to throw them away so I don't hurt anyone's feelings. I can take one taste- if I'm feeling strong- instead of eating a whole serving of something sweet and decadent.
The first three days with students have been great! My class said happy birthday to me today and wanted to sing. How sweet. They impress me every day with how hard they are willing to work. I've got to keep their enthusiasm fresh and carry them through the year. I can't wait to see everything they are capable of doing!
I haven't been able to go out on my stand up paddle board for 5 days!! Tomorrow's weather isn't supposed to be that great, but I'm going out anyway. That's why I bought the wetsuit for heavens sake! (not that I plan on falling in, but if that were to happen, I wouldn't sink in wet soggy clothes) Yippee!!! This will be a real test of my willingness to handle 'weather.' A cool, cloudy day on the Puget Sound is not something I ever thought I would be excited about greeting on a Saturday morning. Maybe the sun will suprise us all and come out tomorrow! It sure has been hiding a lot lately.
So, the school year is off to a great start. I've done well on staying in my calorie range, with the exception of today (I planned to eat extra for my birthday, so no big deal). Now, it's time to start working on making exercise a part of my regular work week routine. This is the hard part, because it ends up getting dark so early, and I preferr outdoor activities. I can always fall back on my wii. I do enjoy it, but during the good summer weather, I just can't see spending time inside. I can still paddle on the weekends when the days get too short.
