Family reunion picnic

I'm about to leave for the family reunion picnic. We have a lot of good cooks in the extended family so there will be lots of tempting dishes. I can probably do a decent job of eating a healthy meal inside of my calorie range, but then there are all the desserts; my weak spot. Since starting sparkpeople went from a chocolate bar, or two, every day to having one bar last a week or more. I don't even think about it for several days in a row now. I think I'll be able to keep the dessert consumption down to a reasonable level. No use denying myself a treat, but I do need to stay in control.
On another note, my very own stand up paddle board comes Monday!!! I've been borrowing a friend's board in the mean time. I bought a wet suit on sale to extend the season for paddling here in the Pacific Northwest, and some foam tubing and straps for my roof rack so I can take it to various bodies of water. I haven't been this excited about an activity for a long time. I've been through several outdoor sport phases. When I was a kid, it was horses. I rode all the time. Then I started riding my bicycle a lot. I still ride it from time to time. Next came rock climbing. Then climbing peaks in the Olympics, and hiking and backpacking. I finally tried cross country skiing and did that as much as I could for a few years. But, eventually, I found that my knees where hurting, especially going down hills, and I don't like cold and rain, which we have in abundance here. This whole idea of being warm in a wetsuit may be the answer... I hope I can extend the season for paddling with the right gear to keep warm. I'll be able to paddle as long as it isn't too windy.
I am really excited about my new sport! I just can't stop talking about it. I'm sure I'm driving everyone crazy, but I just can't help myself.
OK, I'm off to the reunion, with a plan to eat sensibly.
Have a great day everyone!
