Stand Up Paddle Board

Sunday, August 22, 2010

Today I tried something new. A friend of mine got this giant surf board that comes with a paddle and invited my to try it.

Now, I don't usually like activities on the water. Sailing is too windy and cold, same with speed boats plus they ride so rough unless the water is smooth, kayaking leaves me with sore shoulders as well as a tired butt from being stuck in the little seat and my heels get sore from sitting on the bottom of the shell...(Do I sound like a whiner?...yes)

So, imagine my surprise when I really liked paddle boarding. You get to stay dry. You don't go very fast. You use lots of muscles that are normally hiding out and doing nothing. It's not heavy so you can easily take it to where you want to use it.

I'm going to do this a couple more times to make sure this wasn't just a fluke, and if I still like it I'm going to get one! I may just be starting an outdoor activity that involves a whole body workout! I know I don't like going to the gym (wasted plenty of money on memberships I barely used in the past) so, I think I can justify the expense if I decide to get one.

That's me just starting out and not feeling very well balanced at first.

I love the water, so to me it sounds like a great way to exercise. I'd like to try it some time.
