Good or bad?

Tuesday, August 03, 2010

Well this morning I had my appointment for my 'annual' checkup and all the fun that goes along with it. What was I thinking having this appointment right after a week's vacation? I figured my weight wasn't bad as I didn't do badly on vacation but yet I still indulged in some things I wouldn't normally and clearly didn't get enough exercise in so off I go being optimistic about the whole thing. I did weigh at home before going. So I dressed as lightly as possible and knew they wouldn't allow me to shed my shoes so worked on that as well.

So of course, upon arrival, the scale is waiting. I think this is the worst part of any doctor's appt. LOL So I got on it and was pleasantly surprised. Was my weight up - yep but you know what, I was only 3 lbs different from last year's visit and this after being away for a week. I could of beat myself up but instead, I saw it as a success. Success that I've maintained within 3 lbs over a year's time. I think that is quite an accomplishment in itself. My blood pressure 100/68 and a year ago it was 100/70. So all is looking good. I get to have breast exams 2x a year. So now I will schedule my mammogram and in January will have an MRI/with contrast. Seeing the family history is what it is, it is a precautionary measure and fortunately my insurance will cover it all. But (no pun intended) is I also get to have a colonoscopy! I haven't had one in years and I know the prep is the worst so I'll get it scheduled and plan accordingly. If they don't give me demerall, I should be fine. I had a bad reaction to this the first time I had a colonoscopy. Isn't growing older such FUN! emoticon

Excellent weigh in after vacation and good attitude. I loved that you said you "get to have a colonoscopy" like it was a reward of some kind! LOL. Just thinking about that has me thinking of severe torture. I am still working on the mammogram part...but I promised my Dr. I would do that soon! Yeah, older means we have more of this stuff, but we get other good stuff to even it out, I think.

Sounds like all went well. Congrats, you know the 3 pounds was the shoes! My doc knows better than to expect me to weigh with them on. Everyone in the office always laughs at me, but they come off.

    Job well done!

Yeah, when I complain about getting older people just tell me to consider the alternative. Well, I want another alternative. I want staying young to be an option. LOL

You are doing so well. I am proud of you!

3 pounds is nothing! Extra muscle, plus running adds some water to the muscle since it is needed to burn the glycogen stored there for energy. One of the fitness adaptations with running is to store more fuel in the muscles and that means more water too. That's the main reason runners in training gain just a little bit of weight on the scale. It's what I call GOOD weight.
