Morning outing

Well today was the plan that we get out early and jog/walk with a goal of 4 miles using the 30/30 intervals. The temp was 65 degrees and 81% humidity. Dang! Should of done this yesterday when there was little humidity. Oh well, didn't let it stop us and we were off.

We did make 4 full miles (whoo hoo) and then we had our warm-up/cool down time but we managed it in 45:56. Our splits were 10:53/11:16/11:38/12:05 for an average of 11:28. Clearly I slow down as we go further however, I did try, in the last mile, to jog longer and clearly it slowed me down. I do better with the 30 second intervals time wise. Maybe because of the recovery period or something. Not sure but will continue this for awhile especially with it being so warm even in the early morning. Feels good and now it is 8:30 and this is done for the day. Sadly, my pedometer doesn't count the same when I jog so that doesn't make me happy but this too is life.

One thing I did want to share is while out doing this I realized how lucky we all are. We celebrate the 4th of July today and how fortunate we are to be able to walk out our front doors and go for a walk or run whenever we choose. I can't imagine having it any other way. So I for one am thankful to all of those who have fought and are fighting so that we may keep our freedom.

    Definitely because of the recovery -- but mostly because your brain lets you run faster in the shorter interval. Most people think your speed increases by walking less (and it does, a little), but it increases much more by running faster when you do run. Have you looked at your heart rate pattern? Did it go higher when you jogged longer? Keeping the average heart rate down tells you that your body isn't heating up as much.

    Those are really good times. You're going to be pleasantly surprised when fall temps roll around.
