Our trip the the Pacific Northwest

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

Thursday May 27 we flew to Portland OR where are friends Karen and Jerry picked us up and took us to there house in Vancouver WA. The first night we spent chatting over a nice pasta dinner and some wine.
On Friday we drove to Camana Island WA. Ron and I had a very nice suite at the Bluemoon B&B.

It was 2 stories, with the bed and bath upstairs with balcony and hot tub, and a sitting room and kitchenette downstairs.

After a long day of driving through MUCH traffic and rain, we had a nice dinner at a local restaurant and relaxed in our suite with some wine.

The next day was also rainy. We walked along our beach, then explored the island, including Camano Island State Park, and Camo Beach.

On Sunday we had a brief moment of sun. The sunrise was at 5AM and shone very brightly in our window. I got up to take a picture before going back to sleep for a little while.

After breakfast we drove to Anacortes to take the ferry to San Juan Island. It was a long process (1.5 hr drive, 1 hour wait, 1.5 hour ferry).

But the island was beautiful even in the rain.

We looked for whales but didn't see any, and also walked to a lighthouse. We drove around most of the island.
Then we had dinner at a local restaurant before making the return ferry trip and ride.
Monday we drove back to Vancouver WA. About halfway home the sun came out a bit, so we stopped at the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge.

We saw all kinds of birds - including herons, ducks, and eagles. We even saw some muskrats!

Despite the rain, we had a lovely time visiting with our friends Karen and Jerry.
The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful place. I am sure we will be going back again, both to visit our friends and to do more exploring.

Isn't it amazing how the sky can be so gray and yet when the clouds part, we find that the sky is a gorgeous deep blue? It always reminds me that the 'darkness' of a difficult situation is only temporary because the sun is really still there shining. It just may not be visible for a wee bit.

Hope you are still enjoying your days. Keep the twins out of your heat! I don't know how you people down there do it. Our temps with the humidex have been over 105 all week with several days above 110 and one going to 116. Ugh! Two weeks before that it was only 59. My old body doesn't handle the back and forth temps. I'm like an old nag of a horse that probably should just be put out in a cool pasture somewhere!

What a wonderful trip Dianne! I love your illustrated narrative. Reading about what you saw and getting to glimpse it too was so enjoyable. Perhaps you should write travel books!!

Wow! That looks so beautiful. I love the Pacific Northwest. I wish I got to spend more time there. I went to Bellingham, WA a couple years ago and would love to go back. I might be going to Portland next year, and that would be wonderful.
