A break - finally!!!

Sunday, May 16, 2010

I am off of work all this week. I have been looking forward to this for weeks. I don't have much planned, which is my plan emoticon. I don't want to set the alarm, I just want to wake up when I wake up. I do plan on going for a walk every day - I need to get back to my regular walking routine. I also want to relax, read, watch some movies and in between go through some stuff in my garage and organize my spare room. I am planning on moving my treadmill into my living room as well so I can workout when watching tv.

I have been fairly unmotivated for the last month or so, just really feeling in a funk. But I have felt better the last couple of days, so I think I am coming out of the haze. Yesterday, my Civitan club had an event at our local zoo for a group called Friends in Time. They are mainly people with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). I had a gentleman named Gary who is wheelchair bound - most of the clients were. We had a really nice time as I pushed him around the zoo (that was my workout yesterday), looking at the animals and we had a really nice talk. He is an incredibly smart man and I so enjoyed my time with him. The sad thing is, he told me that him and his wife had to divorce, so all assets are in her name - this way he could qualify for medical/financial help to be in a nursing home. How sad is our system that you have to divorce your wife to get help??? We talked quite a bit, I learned about his career, his family, etc. It was a beautiful day and makes me appreciate everything I have.

    That really is sad!
ALS is really hard to watch. I have an Aunt with it. I also use to run a support group for ALS when I worked in the hospital.
I'm glad that you did enjoy your day at the zoo.
