On mindfulness... and losing 3 lbs
Thursday, May 06, 2010
I'm off to a good start. The scale showed that I lost 3 pounds as of this morning. Honestly, I was surprised - the "only" change I made was tracking my food this week. By paying attention to what I'm eating and checking the calorie and fat content *before* making a choice, I've avoided big dinners and only eaten when I'm really hungry. I've also noticed when I haven't met my goals for things like protein so I can make sure I eat enough of what I need, rather than what I want...
It was this mindfulness that I was lacking before. My choices are generally healthy, but I would "forget" what I had eaten during the day and sit down to a carb laden dinner without really knowing if I needed to adjust my portion size or stick with a salad instead. Just one more piece of Texas toast? Sure... A little piece of cake after lunch? Sure... A plateful of noodles and chicken for dinner? Why not! Never mind that I'm now over 2000 calories for the day... I didn't add it up, so I didn't face it.
