Nothing Seems to Work...

Thursday, April 29, 2010

I have Hypothyroidism, Type 1 Diabetes, and Clinical Depression. I am 5 feet tall and I weigh 150 pounds. And nothing seems to work to lose weight. So, instead of just logging food and exercise, I decided I would try blogging. It did help a friend of mine who has lost 37 pounds!

What I believe to be my biggest problem in achieving weight loss is my thyroid. Due to shortages in desiccated thyroid over the past year, it has been very difficult to control. Even when readily available my numbers seem to fluctuate quite a bit. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to get my numbers checked again, since I have been on a steady dose for almost 2 months now, and it feels like it ls close to normal.

When my thyroid IS functioning normally, I then have to deal with a much stronger appetite. I have been really hungry lately and I feel like my thyroid is likely at a good level. Will see after my doctor's appointment tomorrow. I plan to ask him for a recommendation or prescription for an appetite suppressant (Meridia?). Wish me luck!

Wow Cheryl...We are similar ! This is also my heaviest. I have been on Armour for maybe 2 years also, for the second time. Before that I was on synthroid and cytomel. It just doesn't feel right. And, before that, I was on Armour. After much begging to my endo, I was finally put back on Armour the second time.

I have seen on some message boards that some people have had trouble with Arnour with a new filler they are using by demand of the FDA. This was added last June, I believe. I haven't noticed, but then again, the supply has been a little crazy! I had to use a compounded med for a while when it was unavailable. Hopefully, that is over.Have you had trouble with availability over the past year?

Hi there. I just happened to read your blog this evening and was shocked by how similar we are. Like you, I am 5' and my weight has been fluctuating for the last 2 months between 147 - 150. This is by far, the heaviest I have ever been (aside from when I was pregnant with my son). I was officially diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a year and half ago. I asked my doctor to switch me from Synthroid to Armour about 6 months ago... so far, it has not really helped in the weight department, so I am on my own (or so I feel like it).

Anyway, I'm highly motivated to lose weight... I would love to share what has worked and not worked and maybe we can push each other!
