My first 2 weeks as a new Mom...

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Where does the time go? I cannot believe that it has been 16 days since my angel was born. I have learned so much over the past 2 weeks. My life has changed and it continues to be better than I could have imagined.

Sleep. What a wonderful word and it is something that I long for these days. Michaela is doing well but I do miss sleeping through the night. When I was pregnant I tried to prepare my mind for midnight feedings but I think it is something you have to go through to really understand the toll it can take on you. The first night home was hard, we were up all night and breast feeding was not going very well as we were having to supplement with the formula because of her jaundice. After 48 hours when she was off of the formula, we were in a routine and she was sleeping a good 3 hours at a time. She is now doing VERY well with feeding. She currently feeds about 10- 13 times a day and really if she had her way, she would feed even more I think. She seems to love it.

I love watching her do new things and learn more everyday about the world around her. She smiles more and more these days which I have heard is most likely gas but I do not care, it is too cute! She has the cutest sounds and coo's while sleeping. Her favorite place to fall asleep is on my chest curled up. She also loves to take her left hand and play with her hair while feeding, which I think is simply precious! She is learning how to suck on her hand, mostly the index finger. It is good to see her soothing herself as we have not used any pacifiers and are trying not to.

So far I feel things are going really well. We are just so in love with our little Michaela. I do miss being pregnant in many ways. It is hard to explain but it was just an amazing experience that I will treasure always.

My precious girl is napping now and I am about to get in a few minutes of sleep if I can. I have never been so thankful for a good 30 minute nap before in my life! It is funny how things change. I have never been more tired and yet I am so happy! Yes, having a newborn is hard work and requires a great deal of patience, but it is also the single most rewarding thing my husband and I have experienced!

Ok, I am off to sleep now! emoticon

Enjoy your nap! It will continue to get better sleep wise. Even though my little weeble is only 6 months, reading your entry made me nostalgic for those first few weeks and that sweetness. Congratulations again!

I truly believe that Michaela is smiling!!! I know that Sarah did too those first few weeks regardless of others saying it was gas. Keep enjoying your blessing! The time will come (eventually) when you get to sleep all through the night.

AWWW how I miss those days of sitting with my own angel curled up on my chest. She's 25 now and 6'2 so she won't fit! :) Cherish every minute and enjoy it all. Amazing how your priorities change when a little one is born. Congratulations!

I do believe that is a piece of advice I gave you before she was born! Sleep when your little angel sleeps! LOL, it will get better, I promise, not for several months but there will be a light at the end of the tunnel! Hang in there and enjoy your time with your precious daughter. Hope daddy got to take some time off work to be with her.

Congrats on the new baby...I know (from recent experience) how hard it can be! I don't think I have ever been so sleep deprived in my life! The feedings will eventually spread out more...especially when your milk comes in more. Oh and the smiles aren't gas they are your baby girls natural way of working her face muscles...she'll frown and everything too! BUT of course to us they are smiles! lol! Anyway, good luck...and get sleep whenever you can. The dishes/laundry can wait!

There is not much in this world that is better than an infant falling asleep on your chest- unless its watching her fall asleep on her daddys chest!!!

They grow even faster than the pregnancy experience seemed!!!!
