Feeling Pretty Good!!

Yep that IS the case. You see today was the last day of my 10 week walking class. This is a walk for fitness sort of class with racewalking techniques thrown in if you're interested. The instructors are a man who racewalks an 8 minute mile whose in his 50's and a lady who is not only a racewalker but also a racewalk judge who is 84 years old I believe. She IS my role model. I want to be as healthy and fit as she is when I am in my 80's. She lives alone, takes NO maintenance medications and travels the circuit to racewalk. (Not that I care to do that). Anyway, at the beginning of the 10 weeks, we do a timed mile to get a starting point, we do another 1/2 way thru and then today, the final day, yet another to see if there are signs of improvement. I am happy to report that I did in fact see improvement. I went from 12:50 to 12:00 to 11:40 today. So that was exciting for me.
Before we did this I was warming up and ended up walking with a man whose 79 years old and racewalks. Let me tell you that keeping up with him is something I am not able to do when he is in 'race' mode. I was doing 13 minute miles with him and able to converse but when the 'true' mile came, I was eating HIS dust. This man has also been going thru chemo for skin cancer but hasn't let it stop him. He's a man on a mission with goals he's set for himself. Several he wanted to do when he was 80 but has already done. Like 1/2 marathons in under 3 hours and a full marathon in under 6.
So for me, today was a positive. I continue to improve and got some pointers from the old guy on how to better improve my time and my stamina. So we'll see. The week after the Robie we have a timed, and judged, racewalk here in Kalamazoo. The only one in our area each year. I will likely sign up and see if I can improve from last year and do it without having dehydration issues like last year.
Now I'm ready to rest and gear up for the week ahead. High note will be Ava time tomorrow and again on Friday but on my turf and for the day. Whoo Hoo!!! I think I'm gonna love this grandparenting thing.
