Listening to your body

Well I realized it has been a week since I last blogged. What a bad Weezie!!!

So for the first 7 days of March I challenged myself to 25k daily. I did it! I had to work at of course but somehow I got them all in. So now the 2nd week of the month and I've decided to tone it down a bit. 15k minimum. Started out the first 2 days and got over 16k and 21k respectively. Then Wednesday I woke up and I was tired. My body was tired and I couldn't get up. Or didn't get up. I decided to listen to my muscles and bones and just relax and do some breathing I've learned in my yoga class and rest a little longer. So without my early a.m. miles, I didn't make 15k. I barely got 6k but it is okay. Life goes on. Today I did get up and am well over 16k.

I have a goal of averaging 15k daily for the month. With the numbers I've posted thus far, I only need a little over 11k daily to make it. I should have no problem. At least if I stay healthy and just keep at it.

So I will continue the next 3 days working towards 15k and then re-evaluating. I need and want to sew. So that is the plan for the next 3 days besides my 15k daily. I know it is doable.

Yoga is going well and sure does use different muscles and the relaxation is my favorite part of course. I have a new DVD I want to try out this weekend as well. Plus, I want to get back to my Jillian DVD's to work on toning and strengthening as well before the Robie next month. It'll be here in no time. I want to prepare the best I can. We're gonna have a blast!

    Most of the physical benefits of exercise actually occur in the rest periods following when the body is making itself stronger in response to and in anticipation of the physical challenges. People who short change the rest period can actually lose fitness. Besides, it sure is fun to sleep in sometimes, isn't it!

    I think you did absolutely the best thing by dialing back the intensity when your body told you it was tired. That is a lesson I've had to learn the hard way through my injury but I think it was a valuable one.

    Yes, you have to listen to the body.

    One of my own personal sayings is that if you don't stop your body, your body will stop you. In other words, if you push, push, push, and don't heed the signs, then your body will force you to listen through injury, illness, what have you.
