A weekend update.

Monday, March 08, 2010

Today is Monday, unfortunately, and after this past weekend, I kind of wish it were still the weekend. Actually I *really* wish it were still the weekend!

So as I mentioned in Friday's blog, one of the small diamonds in my engagement ring disappeared on Friday and left my ring with a huge gaping snaggle-tooth look to it. Long story short, I took it back to the jeweler who said he would try to have it ready for me later that day. They called me about 5:30 and said they wouldn't have it ready because the setting they used was just really bad and the diamond wouldn't stay in at all. That meant that I'd have to go to my parents' house the next day without my ring. I was SO upset! R got home from work later than he had planned so we argued while he tried to get ready because we were late to dinner for his grandma and his brother's birthdays. So that just set the whole night off on a bad tone. Thankfully once we got to the restaurant we got over it and we had a great night.

Saturday morning we woke up and lounged around for a bit since we weren't really in a hurry to get to Katy. R went and picked up his son and as we were getting everything ready to pack up and leave for Katy, the jeweler called and said that he knew how much I wanted my ring for Saturday so he went into work early and "fixed" it just well enough so I could wear it to Katy!! I was sooo excited, I was in tears! This man seriously made my day! We went and picked it up on the way out of town and he said the diamond was in there, but some time this week I needed to bring it back to him for a few days so he could fix it properly. I don't even care that I have to not have it for a few days this week because I got to show it off on Saturday like I'd wanted to. (:

So anyway we get to my parents' house a bit later than we'd planned and I get to show off my ring and we show off our new car. My parents were quite shocked that we'd bought a car but everyone liked it. Turns out it's identical to my sister's. Bummer, but oh well, can't do anything about it now! So we ate lunch at their then took W to my bestfriend's son's birthday party. W had SO much fun and it was such a beautiful day. We only spent a few hours there because we wanted to go back to my parents' house to hang out with them. W had so much fun playing with my Godnephew. They played baseball, shot waterguns at each other, and rode bikes. My mom was working in the garden and found some frogs and rolly pollies and the boys had a BLAST with those! We went to see my sister and brother-in-law's new house and then R and I headed back to College Station to take W home. We ended up going out to dinner that night because I hadn't planned anything to eat and we had a race in the morning. It wasn't too bad, but I did overeat on the super salty steamed green beans hehe.

Sunday we woke up early and got ready to go race. The race started at 7 and we were stuck in traffic from 6:15 to 6:50. Yikes! We made it to the race site in time though and got to see the half marathoners out. We waited a few minutes and then they let us 5kers go. R hadn't run in MONTHS so he was a bit nervous about the race, but he seriously kicked butt. He kept up with me the whole time and as we neared the finish line I told him that we were going to sprint in the last little bit so we could have a strong finish and he agreed. As we got closer to the finish, he picked up his pace considerably and I was so proud. We hit the home stretch and he took off into a full sprint. I couldn't even keep up! He is an AWESOME sprinter and totally kicked my butt that last few yards! WOWZA! I was so proud of him!We ran the course with exactly 10 minute miles which was great for R and pretty dang decent for me considering I'm coming back from an injury.

After the race, we headed to HEB to stock up on food. We spent $120 dollars there! It was ridiculous! We literally had nothing in the pantry or fridge or freezer so we had to stock up, but seriously, that is a LOT of money for two people! It turns out I could have saved about $12 but I wrote down the wrong thing on my grocery list and ended up buying $16 dollars worth of cucumbers and only needed $4 worth. So now we have an abundance of cucumbers if anyone has any good recipes. (:

When we got home, we spent a few hours relaxing and watching 2012. It turned out to be a great movie despite what I thought. In the afternoon we decided to get out and run a few errands before the rain hit. We managed to get all of our errands in and got some awesome walking in. Woohoo! We went back home and spent the rest of the evening cleaning a bit, baking (me of course haha!), and getting ready for the week ahead. I got most of my meals prepared for the week and will only have to do prep work for dinners this week! Tonight's dinner is a concoction I came up with that I hope turns out yummy. As I'm thinking about it I'm realizing I didn't put any seasonings in it, so it might be kind of bland. Before work, I filled my crockpot with chicken breasts, cream of asparagus soup, chopped fresh asparagus, dry couscous, and water. I'm hoping to come home to a casserole-like dish, but I guess we'll see how it turns out! I've never really made up my own crockpot recipe (other than beans, etc) so I hope it is at least edible! While we were at Sam's on Sunday, I found the most perfect garden box/center ever for my backyard. We'd already decided we were going to plant an above-ground garden in the backyard and we'd been talking about buying the supplies sometime soon. At Sam's, they have a garden box set already cut, stained, etc, that you buy and set up and fill with your soil, etc. It's exactly how we were planning to build our garden, but with all the wood already pre-cut. It's a bit pricey, but I talked to my dad today and he thinks it's definitely a better deal than buying wood and starting from scratch. Plus it's all cedar and I looooooove cedar, so it will be gorgeous. I'm thinking I'll go back tonight or tomorrow to pick it up. I can't wait to get my garden in the ground!

I'm off to finish some work and then probably post another blog. I've got some issues hanging on my mind right now that I'd like to blog about. Hopefully I can get that blog out today but we're really busy at work so I'm not counting on it. If not, I'll write about it tomorrow. Anyway, hope all my Spark friends are doing great and had a wonderful weekend! The first glimpses of Spring are here and I'm loving it! I hope it stays this way!

Sounds like you had a busy weekend! I'm glad they were able to get you your ring for Saturday. I would be the exact same way I'm sure. Congrats to you and Ricky on the 5K!
