Change has gotta come!!!

Saturday, January 09, 2010

Well, I have to come up with a goal to change something. This is difficult due to the fact that I am constantly working on change. I am always online reading what I need to do and then I start to make the adjustment. The problem is the permanence of that change. That is what intrigues me about this challenge or goal. I notice that lately, I am ordering diet soda whenever I go somewhere. I also notice that I am eating out more than normal. I also struggle to go to the gym and work out with enthusiasm. I lack the energy to pursue this change that I want to happen (weight-loss). Can increase of enthusiasm be a goal? My energy level is at about -5. I FIND IT HARD TO GET UP. I am simply going through the motions.
Am I depressed? Am I discouraged? What is it?
I take a multi-vitamin, I drink water, I go to bed early, I journal everything, I plan my meals (they are boring) but they are the necessary food groups in the portions required. But, then I binge-is it out of boredom?
Perhaps I need to adjust my attitude. Can I simply eat this way forever. Maybe, I need to go to a professional. I know I'm not crazy-but I find myself thinking about food all of the time. I should not be doing that. Maybe I need a hobby-I love to shop- but have no money at this time. So, that's out. I don't like exercise even though I go to the gym. My workout truly lacks luster. I love going to movies (but, that's no fun without popcorn) It sounds like I'm making excuses-but I'm being honest. Oh, I digress. I guess my goal should be to get a better attitude or else I'm gonna fail for sure. OK, how do I measure my attitude? Maybe, graph my daily feelings. What can I do to adjust my attitude? Hmmmmm! I really, don't know-oh well, something to ponder.
I'm at the point in this journey when I feel all out of ideas-'cause I've tried them all. I'm not trying to discourage-Just venting I guess.
Ok, back to the goal thing-I will not drink any more soda. (Diet or otherwise) That's measurable and easy enough to do.

Sorry for the round about rambling- Thanks for a place to do it though-LOL!!

I can totally relate to your blog. I have been there and in many instances. I'm still there. I guess many here on this list could give you a long list of things you could try and of course there are books and more books on the subjects you raise. But I think the only thing that will work are the things you choose for yourself. The things that fit what you want to do. It might be a few new recipes, or a new exercise video or even an exercise buddy or personal trainer. Maybe you want to learn a craft. Who knows, but the choice is yours to make. You've come a long way, and you have done a great job so far. Keep your eye on the prize and don't give up. I have faith in you. You can do this!!

I understand where you're coming from. Perhaps a trip to the library would help. When my food is boring, I look in Weight Watcher's or Cooking Light cookbooks for inspiration. The nutritional information is right there and it's easy to input into the nutrition tracker. The recipes on this site also help me. Good food tends to cheer me up. Invite a friend to share it.

Keep your eyes on your goal and that will lift your spirits. Think of all you have accomplished so far and make the necessary adjustments to motivate yourself in a more positive direction. We are what we think we are. You are a strong courageous beautiful woman who is worthy of every goal you set your mind too. If boring exercise is not your thing all week long then mix it up a little and maybe try a dance or belly dancing or yoga or other type of active class. Find something you can stick with and look forward too but remember weight loss and muscle toning take commitment and a certain amount of pain and sweat. I like to watch the olympics because it motivates me to get and be in shape. I find the athletes inspiring. I hope this helps. emoticon

Your honesty touches me, as does your integrity in meeting your challenges. I've a feeling you're speaking for most of us.

Weight loss is a lifelong committment and it will be difficult and require efort, especially the last pounds. There is are so many words nowdays, spoken, written, and even sung about obesity but I have finally, in all my years, realize, that I will lose my weight when I make my own rules, suited to my temperament and circumastances. Pardonme, but far too many are making money off the "fat of the land". Even Dr.Oz is selling his books!

Losing weight ensure, good health to you, and your family.

God bless you on the journey you have begun and be your strength as you continue your journey. emoticon

I can totally relate to what you're saying. I think we will be great together as partners in this journey.
Each day I come to work with good intentions as far as going to the gym. But as soon as it's time to leave work, I change my mind about the gym and wind up going home instead.
Also, I have hugh problems with binge eating once I get home. At work, I do all the right things, eat all the right foods but once I get home, all control is left at the front door.
I think a lot is boredom, lack of motivation and also self esteem.
What helped me was joining a high impact aerobics and kickboxing class at the gym and it's not as boring as just going to do a work out. I'm a little more motivated in going. I also found someone to go to the pool with 2x a week. My main problem is when I have to do these things alone. That's when I get bored and quit. That might be your problem too. When we do things alone, it makes it easier for us to just give up. It's easier to motivate ourselves to eat the burger then it is to eat a salad.

Hopefully, we can motivate each other as partners to go to the gym and eat the proper foods. We can start now. I'm going to the pool this evening for an hour. What are you going to do this evening? Write me and let me know how it went!

I know how you feel and I think you may be going through a "valley" on your journey. However, the great news is that you realize that something has to give and you are making the necessary steps to get back on track.
This is a life-long way of living. Maybe look into some exercise videos instead of the gym or go to some new classes at the gym. There is nothing wrong with eating popcorn at the movies...but to everything there should be moderation.
You are not rambling in your blog..you are getting feelings out and I am sure that you feel somewhat better just doing that.
Hang in there and love yourself where you are realizing that you will continue to make improvements each and every day!

Thank you so much for sharing your blog. I feel as though, a year ago, I would have written it. I'd like to share something that I have learned over the last year. (Feel free to delete if you don't like it.)

I have learned that weight loss occurs on three levels, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Emotionally you are getting there but are struggling some - I know I was. Physically - you are more there than you think. Most of us have this part down packed. Exercise will follow as weight loss starts to happen. You will want to do it to keep up your weight loss. Weighing and measuring your foods is key here. So, that brings us to spiritually. How are you there? For me, I went to church every week, but my prayers were asking God to take away my excess weight rather than asking God to give me the strength to get rid of the weight.

If you'd like to chat or email some time, I'd love to be there for you. I just wanted to give you a little thought. If weight loss is related to a bar stool of three legs and you concentrate on only one - or two, the bar stool will fall over. But, when you concentrate on all three, you sit nice and tall!

God bless you Charmaine! May you find the path to your journey. You can do it!!
