Baby Steps on the Journey to a New Me

Monday, September 14, 2009

I was thinking about a movie I saw many years ago. The man remembered that if he took baby steps he could get out of the place where he was stuck.

I think of my decision to join this online support team .
What are the advantages of a virtual community?
Certainly, I do not have anyone I know personally in my town who
needs to lose the amount of weight that I do. So, when I saw the Spark Team
of people over 50 who need to lose 50 to 99 pounds, I was glad that I would be able to identify with the people in this group.
So it is about baby steps.
Each day, try to add or change one small thing.

Since June, I have switched some of me yogurt of nonfat cottage cheese.
I exercise moderately every week.
I am mindful of what I am putting in my mouth most of the time.
Since, I joined Sparkpeople, I noticed that my protein intake is on the lower side of the the daily range. This is something that I will work on changing during the coming weeks. Protein builds muscle. Muscle burns calories.
Today I just added wall push ups. It felt good to complete the 2 sets.
I know that I have done something for my body today.

For me, it is all about mind, body and spirit. I usually take time for my mind and spirit but often the body is left behind.

So here's to BABY STEPS.

Taking " Baby Steps" is introducing me to foods that I am eating for a first time such as"
collards, water cress, swiss chard.
For the first time, I am cooking with the salsa that I used to put on my chips.

I don't know about you but for me, beginnings are exciting and scary at the same time. Changing patterns that I have learned over many years will be a one day at a time journey.
So for today , I welcome the small changes that I hope will one day be something I call my daily routine.

TOGETHER WE CAN!

It is certainly a far cry from my favorite genoa salami sandwich. haha

The ab crunches are beginning to show results!

You have a great attitude !!! With baby steps, I'm sure you will eventually make big changes. Exercise to me is kinda like work, I hate to go, but love the paycheck lol. I figure that if there are 24 hours in a day, I can surely find 30-60 minutes to give to myself. We ARE worth it emoticon

I enjoyed your blog. You are so right - it is about baby steps! I'm not so thrilled about the exercise either, but I know I have to do it. So I'm taking baby steps too. Good luck on your weight loss journey!
