GEE I MISSED YOU HUSKY LOVIN' FRIENDS!
Sunday, August 23, 2009
Hi to all! Carol, Donna, J, Justin and all my friends - I need to catch you all up on where I have been and how the pack (especially Phoenix and Shadow) are doing.......
I had a very busy winter with 4 dogs and trying to get Phoenix slowly acclimated to the rest of the house and dogs.......Up to about Feb. he was crated in the house but in the living room so he could be with the other three dogs but could slowly build up a trust and comradeship with them. In Feb we had him running free with the other three dogs and for three weeks life was good-all four played and got along with no problems. On Easter Sunday with no provocation Phoenix entered the room and Shadow in one leap jumped on Phoenix and had him by the neck......It was a real blood bath and I honestly thought I was going to watch Phoenix being killed by my beloved Shadow right before my eyes.......My husband and I both jumped in and taking care to not pull them apart for fear of ripping Phoenix's throat-we got them apart but not before Ed was severely bitten....(which became a good thing since that began the bonding process with Ed and Phoenix although Phoenix was the biter!) So we spent the evening in the emergency room and he missed four days of work as the tendon in his arm was almost bitten in two. While the blood was bad - the wounds on the dogs were not too serious although to be safe we took them to the vet...... So now we have two packs in our home and rotate who gets the run of the downstairs and who gets the run of the upstairs and so it is Kasa and Phoenix together and Shadow and TuTanka. We rotate them up and down every other day and have purchased muzzles for them and are gradually retraining them with muzzles in tact for safety!
We had hoped by now to have them all four peaceably co-habitating but I got up one morning in May and had a slight backache and the next day ended up in the emergency room. Needless to say I had a ruptured disc and had surgery (have the bottom two discs now gone as I shattered the second to last one from the bottom about nine years ago) and was down for the whole summer-finally went back to work last Monday!
So it has been a rough 2009 so far but hey-what doesnt break you makes you stronger! So wanted to tell you all I missed you and reading updates on how we are doing on our weight (lost 9 pounds lying in bed recuperating and now that I am up I have gained that back plus 10 more so while I only look 10 pounds heavier I gained a total of 19 pounds this summer! So I am back to working on getting those extra 10 pounds back off! Check out my pics in my photos as I have posted some new ones on my babies and my weight progress and gosh! It is just so good to be back!
