Sodium

I weigh in at my Weight Watchers meeting every Wednesday at high noon. Last Wednesday morning I step on my Wii Fit, which is usually pretty close to the WW scale, only to find myself up 2.2 pounds! I exercise daily and I'm pretty diligent about following the WW program so I was pretty sure it was water weight but where did it come from? At my official weigh in I was down .6 pounds but I really felt like I should have had a bigger loss. What is going on?

I don't eat processed foods very often so I didn't think it was an issue with consuming too much sodium. I spent a couple of days mulling over the problem and paying attention to my body and realized that I feel bloated nearly all the time. I decided to add sodium to my tracked nutrients and WOW what an eye opener! I have been over my sodium goal every single day and some days, including the day before my weigh in, I had consumed twice as much sodium as my recommended maximum allowance. WOW!

So now I'm a mission to reduce my sodium intake and hopefully have a decent loss on Wednesday! I've already identified a couple of culprits. That thinly sliced ham I like to make a sandwich with is only 1 point but a whopping 690 mg of sodium! If I pair my sandwich with a serving of pretzel sticks, that's another 580 mg of sodium. Yikes!

I am definitely going to try to get that number down and see how I do at the next weigh in.
