Feeling Pretty Good

There are two reasons I'm feeling sort of on top of the world today, one has to do with eating, and the other has to do with exercise...
Yesterday, I got home from work and was doing the homework/dinner preparation thing, and boy, I was HUNGRY!!! I had debated having a piece of fruit before I left work, mostly because I really wasn't hungry at all, yet I knew by the time I picked up my son and got home, I would be. But because I really wasn't hungry, I didn't have that orange. This was probably not smart, because I have found that the best way to keep from eating more than I should or things that I know aren't the best choices is to keep myself from getting to that really hungry point. That's a constant battle, because I'm trying to work on developing my sense of not eating out of habit, but eating out of hunger...and eating when I'm not hungry falls far more into the "habit" place.. Well, okay, enough of that inner battle, here's why I feel good: even though I was really hungry at home, I didn't go overboard..I had a handful of mixed nuts, which helped but didn't completely eradicate the hunger. So I had some bagel crisps with some hummus, and then I was okay. In the meantime, we finished doing homework and got dinner cooked, and then when I ate dinner I wasn't ravenous and was totally satisfied. Not only did I not put a bit in my mouth after dinner, I didn't even want to!!! All in all, a good day, all centering around having what I felt like to eat, but doing it IN MODERATION.
Now, on to the exercise. I have blogged and messaged a lot in the last month or so about my new-found exercise plan of getting up early in the morning and doing a 2-mile walking dvd. It's a decent workout for me, I work up a great sweat, though I know my pulse isn't getting up as high now as it was even a few weeks ago. So I know I have to step it up, or at least do it longer. I got a 3-mile, 45 minute dvd for Christmas that I still hadn't tried, and was agonizing over having to get up even earlier in the morning to do that, and fearing that if I did, it might put a kink in getting up early at all on any day...you know how that can happen... So, I went to the exercise message board, and someone suggested that I try to aim for getting up extra early just ONE day, and see how it goes.
Such a simple suggestion, yet it never entered my mind...but it was the PERFECT solution for me.. So this morning, I did the 45 minute dvd...I feel simply great, and I now feel like it's okay if I don't do it EVERY day, but if I start out with one, non strength training day, and then get to the gym on Saturdays for my elliptical/treadmill 45 minute workout, then I'll have two 45 minute cardio days (Wed and Sat) and four 30 minute cardio days (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri), plus 3 strength training days (Tues, Thurs, Sat), and man, that's NOT bad!!!!
So here's to learning, once again, that SP is the greatest place in the world, because someone always has an answer and a kind and encouraging word for you.
