Eating Healthy with a Microwave
Tuesday, August 19, 2008
When I moved out on my own as an adult, I was working full-time and trying to lose weight so I started trying out the healthy microwave meals. I started with SmartOnes entrees. I didn't pay attention to calories or sodium content. 3 months after I moved into my own apartment, I had to have a heart procedure that fixed a birth defect. So, I had to start paying attention to sodium levels and that forced me to give up SmartOnes. For my easy dinner fix, I moved onto skillet sensations. I thought they were healthier because they came with veggies (just ignore the creamy sauces).
When I joined Weight Watchers, everyone raved about their paninis so I got hooked. How happy am I that they have flatbread? And yet the taste, calories, and convenience were good but fiber and protein was lacking. So, I have found 2 brands that cover those concerns. Kashi has delicious, fiber-rich microwaveable entrees and South Beach diet has protein-rich meals (I'd avoid their savory beef though).
