I wish I could be running more!

Monday, August 11, 2008

Ugh, after my first run I started getting shin splints really really bad. I know it was primarily because I was just using a pair of Sketchers I had laying around the house. Right now I can't really afford to go get a new pair of running shoes.

Also, yesterday, I went for a vigorous hike and started experiencing chest pain around my heart area. It feel like a constriction or pressure, but only went I was hiking really hard and fast. If I slowed down it started to go away...I'm hoping it's just because my body wasn't used to exercise that day, i.e. I didn't really warm up, just jumped right into it.

Wish me luck!

Dip those shin splints into some icy water, whether it's a cold brook or stream, or a bucket of water with ice in it. The shin splints will start to feel better and go away.
As for the shoes, keep an eye on the local outlets, or sporting goods store, for sales...sneakers that are flashy can be really pricey, but flashy doesn't mean better. Ask the clerks to help you find a shoe that will work for you, then keep watching the prices until the sale hits, or search online, or wait for a season change to buy an old season shoe. You can do it! Just have to be innovative....
Good luck, and take it gently as you build up to a comfortable exercise level! It will be sooner than you think.
