06/09/08: a little of this 'n that,

Monday, June 09, 2008

ok, I am discouraged by not being able to figure out all this technical stuff on the site. Can't get a 20# loss picture, can't figure out how to get my virtual fat & skinny selves on my page, can't figure out how to post the Spark quote on my page to comment on them..........

At least the pound that found me last week has been banished, hopefully his brother will go right on down the train tracks with him this week and I will reach another milestone in weight loss, leaving another decade behind.

Wouldn't it be nice if leaving years behind could be so easy? I would take about 10 away from my Mom so she could live the next 10 years without her Parkinson's' and related dementia. I never know whether to be happy for her or just sit down & cry. And what will happen if I have the same health problems, with no kids and my husband likely to die before I get ill, who will hand me the tools to finish my life out somewhere?

And, speaking of that, I saw the beginning of a show on PBS about brain training, sounds like it might be good news for folks suffering from brain diseases as they can literally watch how a brain functions. Some day a genius, or just plain luck guy, will find a way to tie those loose connection back together again!

I am talking to a lawyer on Wednesday about what to do with our mom, nursing home - what does that entail, making her a dependent and what that would entail, what do we (my sister & I ) who have legal, health and moral "custody" of our mother's rights decide about mom how & where will live the rest of her days. A dilemma I am sure some of you have already faced.

motivated - I started a survival weekend/vacation "bag" this weekend. The key is the bag has to have the stuff in it and only half the stuff made its' way with me because I forgot to pick out a bag!!. Luckily, was only gone 2 days so tracking food, etc. was pretty easy. I NEED THAT BAG!!!!! A briefcase would work but I want it to be something that says - goals - happy - hmmm maybe I can make one, I have a purse if altered would be good. Need a spot for journal, pen, - I better use that purse I have and see how it works. Since it is a little darker maybe I can brighten it up with a charm or ribbon.

Think my reward for leaving the next decade-ville is going to be a journal for tracking while I am gone. Just a simple notebook, but something I can have all the time in my BAG! I also need a folder i think for info I need to contemplate or read.

ok - I should do some work today. Will be back later to finish, i hope lol

I think this is the way you change your pictures:
    Click "edit your spark page"
Click on "edit my photo gallery"
    Click "upload photo"
    Click "browse"
Find the pic you want to show
    Highlight pic and click "open"
Type in a photo caption if you want want
    Click "upload now"
Close the window when you see the pic on your spark page
Click "Return to Edit Your SparkPage"
Highlight the pic on the right side of the screen you want to trade for the new one
    Click "Save Your Changes"
Your new pic should show on your SP.

To add a quote and other info to your page:
    Click "edit sparkpage"
Scroll down to the box labeled "Personal signature" (or another box)
Type in your quote (or other info)

How do I add a SP "pounds lost" icon
    Go to your Start page.
    Click "View My SparkPage" .
    Click "Edit My SparkPage" link.
Scroll down to Profile Image at the bottom right, and click "Change this image"
Click "Also choose from our "success" gallery" on the upper right.
    Choose your image
    Click "Save Changes".

You have a pretty full plate. I had to help my ex-mother-in-law, whom we are still good friends, with her husband who had it too. I finally convinced her of putting him into a retirement home that was for people like him so he couldn't just escape (safety). It was hard, but we did it. We visited him often....until he finally passed on. It was too much for her to try to care. It gave him some independence, it gave him care that she could not provide, let alone anyone. He would get up in the middle of the night, leave burners on, etc. He would go outside and be gone hours and sometimes totally lost. Once we got him to a home, we would take him out for outtings, or I would pick him up and take him to the bowling alley for his coffee and pancakes, his favorite. Anyways, I do feel for ya and know what kind of work is ahead of ya....It won't be easy, but you will get through it. I will keep you in my prayers!
