My grandbabies! I took a leap of faith and bought a plane ticket for the end of October... maybe I’ll be celebrating Halloween through children’s eyes again!
These photos are so sad to me... DH cannot be around our cats until his health stabilizes; and even then, no more sleeping with them or helping with kittens, because it is a risk to his kidney transplant.
and the kitties are missing DH more than words can say!
A successful adoption event today! Of 26 cats and kittens, 8 were adopted, and all received lots of loving attention!
Travel to the adoption event was a meowy adventure... got lost twice and had to drive through a slide area!

and family remembering my MIL with Love
I have been and will be away from Spark for the most part during this time of mourning. DH unexpectedly lost his Mom on Sep 13 and he’s deeply struggling. Having so many of his family travel here from up north and out of state has helped.
DD and my grandbabies flew in for a quick overnight stay to attend MIL’s funeral. Having them here helped a lot! ♥ï¸
GD Ryan loves her broccoli!
I got to see GD Ryan in person for the first time since my trip to Colorado after her birth... 15 months is WAY too long between visits! She liked me!
GD Sierra kept herself entertained during the viewing/wake. Having the two little ones there helped lighten the heavy somber mood.
GD Ryan looking to see what she can get into at the table...
Our last adoption event yielded 8 of 26 cats and kittens adopted. It didn’t feel like work; not when a big part of what has to be done is showcase the kitties by playing with them.
A keepsake I created for DH in memory of his mother.
GOOD MORNING!
Old man George giving me the eye after he sat on my head and woke me up.

Alzheimer's is the most devastating disease I have ever witnessed. I thank God my MIL is at peace now, fully cognizant, and happily reunited with her husband.

ELEVEN WEEKS UNTIL THE HOLIDAYS... GIVE YOURSELF THE GIFT OF LIVING HEALTHILY!
We are having a run of orphan kittens, several in the last week alone. I am part of a network of independent rescuers. Thank goodness we work together to support the fostering and health of these babies! Not one lost so far... KNOCK KNOCK ON WOOD!
Ohhhhh... this is SO my cats!
Saw this in the food ads... Seriously, FIBER WATER???
My beautiful feral boy White Fang is doing fantastic in his forever home! He is out of his crate and at home with the other cats, as usual talking up a storm when it’s time for wet food. His new mom adores him! I knew she could give him the home he needed and I couldn’t, but I still miss him!
is missing all my girls... next visit will be for happy reasons!
My angels surround me as I sleep... Scrappy, Dessy, George, Cupcake, Zorra for sure; sometimes Tabitha, and Squirrel under the bed with Tuxie.

Ahhhhh,the joy of kittens!
Look at my beautiful feral boy, now named Sir Fang! He bonded with another male at his new home, and they are best buds!
Preparing for another adoption event on October 27. The seven kittens from the homeless camp bumped my kitties... now it’s their turn.
Looks like I’m spending the night at the ER with DH again. Fever 🤒 increased, not a true spike but still worrisome. Here we go again! 😢

is grateful for friends who are helping with the physical work in and outside our home.
Bedtime Companion #1 - Tabitha sleeps on my pillow every night, and is back to her cuddly, more playful self.
Bedtime Companion #2 - Scrappy is the man of the house now, and stays by my side. At night he sleeps right next to me.
Bedtime Companion #3 - George, our old man, joins me for every nap time and when I lay down to rest. He doesn’t like to share the pillow!
I love this photo! DH and his Mom before the Alzheimer’s took her mind. Now he is in a care facility to recover after more complications following his kidney transplant.
Can't wait for Halloween!
This is a program I would love to see at our shelter!
We need this at our local parks... now how to warn about the raccoons and coyotes?
Now I can make Nana's recipes!
Not sure where else in the US the prices for gas compare, but this is California.
This is Ella, who I brought home to tame for adoption rather than returning her to her colony. She’s doing great... and working with her is a great comfort to me.
Am I acting crazy, like Crazy Cat Lady crazy?!?
This is Ella: another young cat trapped in a colony, I took to be spayed, but decided to take home and tame for adoption. She has the same look that Bernie had, and I’m already picking her up for long cuddles.
For a laugh!

Sooooo true!
An unexpected save... one of three pregnant cats we are trying to place is safe with a foster tonight! She surprised us with five healthy babies the night before being transported. (I was the last leg of the journey.)
is organizing the cats and kittens for, and running an adoption event tomorrow. May all our kitties be healthy and have a good time!
Two of my sweeties at the adoption event today. They did very well, despite being in a completely strange environment!
Five of eight cats waiting in my kitchen for their turn to be fixed and vaccinated by a mobile vet. She parked at our house to do a clinic for fosters, pets, and ferals. This was last minute, but very successful, so we’ll be doing it regularly.
DH is getting stronger every day! I’m back at the house for tonight, to sleep with our kitties. I think they missed me... I’ve got two on my lap, one right next to me, one on my pillow, one on my feet, and three sleeping together on a pile of clothes on the bed. I wish I could take a photo, but the lights are out!
This beautiful mom rescued with her newborns was a serendipitous save! Babies will be one week old on Thursday and all are doing great... mom looks pretty happy too!
has learned how true this is!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
is far enough away from all the fires to be safe, other than poor air quality.
Life in southern CA...
I’m glad to do my part!
Nine one-week-old kittens and their skin-and-bones mama are now safe at a long term foster. The young mama is taking good care her babies, and eating like a horse! They’ll have all the quality food they want and any medical care they need, and kittens will be adopted when old enough (foster is keeping the mom). What a relief!!!
I’m not saying this is me, but I’m sure one day it will be.
Two of my kitties, Zorra and Tuxie, patiently waiting for treats. My fur critters keep me going!

Definitely see this happening with my cats, if I didn't have a dozen boxes just for them around the house!
The mama with five kittens, now in foster care after her elderly human went into a nursing home, is living in a convent, spoiled by the nuns, and probably feels like she's in Heaven!
Looking ahead to the Winter Holidays!

One of the best rewards of rescue!
is enjoying watching this mama with her babies, one of the best rewards of rescue!
Quite a day yesterday... hosted a spay/neuter clinic at my house with the mobile vet: 38 cats, dogs, and bunnies fixed and/or vetted over seven hours; 23 of those came from my network of fosters, trappers, and rescues that work with me.
This is a HUGE tomcat who was trapped after several years of being elusive and making countless babies... NO MORE!
is remembering all the veterans in my family, among my friends, and especially those suffering from the after effects.
May we honor our military and veterans, not just on November 11th but every day, by our attitudes, choices and actions.

Reunited and it feels so goooood... two kittens were trapped on Sunday, vetted and taken to a foster. A third sibling was trapped on Monday. After a long night of crying (him, not me), and taking him for vetting, I delivered him to the same foster this afternoon. I foresee a huge success for all three!
Good morning from Tabitha and me!

is missing her fur kids... so happy to spend tonight together!
Latest rescue: 5 six-week-old kittens removed from under a house. Luckily they had a good mom for protection, but it’s time to get them to safety and teach them humans are their friends. Mom will be fixed and returned, but these babies are headed to new loving homes!
This will definitely be my friends and me in the not too distant future!
Sitting on the freeway, trying to get home... gotta learn to avoid that interchange until construction is done!
The fall of the Berlin Wall affected me greatly, because I lived in West Germany at the height of the Cold War. This massive art installation is an amazing tribute.

I know how this feels... when both of my kids towered over me!
Christmas Tree solution #3!
Three kittens snuggling in a blanket... hard to believe two weeks ago they were trapped in a colony and went to a foster home. Two were just adopted, one more to go.
You know the saying, if I fits, I sits? It doesn’t even have to be a box! This is our beloved Dinky, getting comfy in DH’s weightlifting belt.

is trying to stay strong: DH spiked a fever, I rushed him to the ER, he was admitted. Heading home and feeling drained.

At first I thought this was another example of my cooking skill, but the message is much more profound.

These two... what a story!
Different ages, colors, sexes, rescuers, locations, origin stories, personalities.
This weekend the scared baby tuxedo joined the cuddly bug muted tabico at a foster home. After dancing around all puffed up, she must have decided the kid’s not that bad.
This photo embodies the true joy of my rescue work!
is looking forward to going home!
I’ve decided to go home as early as possible. Infectious Diseases and OT cleared me tonight. PT still has to sign off, but I walked a whole lap around the floor today.
Although I’m going home to an empty house - cats don’t count, can’t dial 911 - a friend will check on me twice a day, and help with the cats, food, cleaning, etc.
It’s been a rough two weeks. Wish me luck, please keep me in prayers! Thank you.
Gotta wait to see my kitties... I didn’t pass the physical test to go home from the hospital. Doctors believe the typhus damaged my heart muscle... not getting upset yet (trying), could be temporary. More testing tomorrow.
Saw this video, had to make a meme!
I was so happy to receive this photo of a recently adopted kitten with her new big sister! I had hesitated, but approved the adoption. I decided to trust their enthusiasm that the little one would be a good match, and it’s going well!
My two hearts...

Two more kittens adopted out! A bonded pair going to a home with two school age girls. Thank goodness for cell phones... and friends out in the real world to help complete rescue tasks.
had another setback health wise, and the doctors are stumped... come on heart, STABILIZE!
Diagnosis = heart issue = different food choices in the hospital. I haven’t eaten this healthy for this long in years!
Being in the hospital gives me a lot of time to catch up on all the best Christmas movie classics: Home Alone, Gremlins, Elf, and of course, Die Hard!

I love being home at last and surrounded by my cats!!!
Back home at last... but not sure where to start to catch up.
is taking recovery one day at a time.
Baby orphan tuxedo kitten named Sylvester ended up with me for a couple of days, so I could evaluate how he’s doing after being fostered. He has adjusted beautifully to living with humans, and he’s going for adoption today!!!
is always surrounded by cats... one perk of being on bed rest. Here you can see one of the cats on the bed, Tuxie popping up, and Ella watching from the hall.

I wonder how many people know who Schoedinger’s cat is because of the TV show Big Bang Theory?
I need to add this to my new heart medications!
These cuties were saved by a rescue friend. She found them in a park near a feral colony; five weeks old, no mama, one kitten had already died. Three weeks later they’re healthy, frisky and fun, ready for adoption. This is what we do!
Southern California... interested?!
My friend sent me a photo of her kitten in their Christmas tree... I added a bit of glam and sent it back!

This was me when the kids were young, still wrapping gifts at 4am on December 25th.
I wish we could read more of the cards!
Still Feral Tuxie and Old Man George, complete opposites, have a close bond. When they cuddle together, I try to get closer and closer and pet George; lately I slide my hand over to gently touch Tuxie. Today I stroked Tuxie from his neck down his side with my full hand, and then laid it on him to feel him breathingl
I TOUCHED TUXIE!!! ♥ï¸
Celebrating any holiday, especially Christmas, is harder when a dearly loved person has passed away. Somehow over these years, I grew to accept the joy of the holidays hand in hand with the pain of the death of and missing my son.

MEMORIES... Last December we fostered a tiny orphaned bottle baby, keeping her with us 24/7. She slept in a small carrier between us at night, and became our precious Christmas Kitten.
is looking forward to Christmas, even if I will be alone.
We had a hard, long rainstorm yesterday. Rain is much needed here in Southern California, but it’s especially hard on the homeless population and on feral (outside) cats. The rainbow didn’t last long, but it was beautiful.
I always look forward to Channel 5’s Christmas morning Yule Log broadcast. It changes over the hours, with kittens or puppies playing, and holiday music.
This year I discovered there are dozens of different kinds of Yule Logs being broadcast On Demand! I’m falling asleep to my favorite type, a blazing fire and instrumental Christmas music!
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. For he had his Teddy Bear, made special for him, he loved to cuddle him, right under his chin!

My beautiful Dessy is 19 months old. I still see the independent little kitten who came to me as an emergency foster, but she is definitely a teenager now.
She was rescued at a waste management facility after being dumped out of a garbage truck. The rescuer described her as being marinated in garbage juice.
Several baths later, she brought me this white ball of fluff purring like crazy! After attempts to place Dessy with fosters failed, she came home and is here to stay.
My hardest decisions continue... I found the perfect home and family for our precious Old Man George. Just thinking about giving him up brings me to tears! But I gotta do what is best, for DH’s health and especially for George.

I love Sparkpeople!
Had to laugh at this one! At the beginning of my working in rescue, autocorrect changed all the cats to cars; now it changes cars to cats!
Remember this! It helps when dealing with the ills and irritations of the world.
THANK GOODNESS!!!
The decluttering isn't going as well as expected!

How time flies! It feels like it has only been a couple of weeks since this heavily pregnant, terribly young cat gave birth en route to a foster home. Now the kittens are being adopted, and mama cat found a home at the convent.
George and Tuxie are going together to a new permanent home. Letting go of George is hard, but he’ll be much happier in a home with more cats and a revolving supply of foster babies to love. Then George’s adopter asked about Tuxie... since they were together in nearly every photo! So I’m letting go of my precious feral Tuxie, so he can stay with his best friend.
George hugging Tuxie last night in bed next to me while he gave Tux a thorough cleaning. Tux was so relaxed, I was able to touch him - pet his head and ears and neck - for the FIRST TIME EVER.
The final four... These are the cats who are staying with us as our personal pets.
Each one has a unique rescue origin story, and are compatible to each other.
From 26 to four, most people doubted it was possible, but I did it; now, no more fosters.
I’m not sure why these T-shirts showed up in my FB feed, but I like them! I made a collage for my friend, an author.
Every day, any time, my precious fur babies!!!
Ahhhhhh... that’s what it means!
Truly forgiving and letting go of the past may be hard to do, but it works. Forgive others for your own sake, for peace of mind.
has every cat sleeping on my bed, two on my pillow... pure happiness! Trying not to miss the many babies and cats I nurtured and adopted out.
My last night with my other old man, George. We slept face to face for hours... when I woke up, I had to grab a shot!
The man of the house, my beautiful boy Scrappy, who spends the nights attached to my side. Even better, I love waking up with Scrappy sacked out on my tummy or perched on my hip. I couldn’t feel more protected!

It’s February. February is a very hard month for me.
The house feels SO empty! From 26 cats and kittens (6 of our own, with 6 adult and 14 baby fosters) when DH received his transplant, down to just four personal kitties.
Words to live by...

I was SOOOOO somber last night, but today I’m feeling... well, not good, but not as weighted down by sadness.
This year the anniversary of my son Scott’s death is going to be different. I’m allowing myself to express my feelings... to FEEL what I feel... whiny, irritated, sad, angry, depressed, WHATEVER! No more stuffing down my emotions by stuffing my face.
is trying to learn new ways of dealing with the sorrow and continuing grief of my son’s death.
How I woke up... Scrappy cuddled up asleep with little feral Squirrel on my stomach. It was heavenly!!!
We had some excitement this week... 6am stolen car pursuit suspect jumped out and ran into our neighbors’ house. (Luckily the car didn’t hit our back house.) The whole block was on lockdown for several hours, but he eventually surrendered... thank God, no guns.

I saw a video made from daily photos taken of a kitty from tiny bottle baby until adulthood. How I wish I’d done the same with my foster fail babies! (I snapped screenshots and made this collage.)

Very scared, very pregnant young cat trapped at the abandoned hoarded house, and brought to our clinic to be aborted and spayed. Several calls later, I found a foster to care for pregnant mama through the babies’ birth and kittenhood. All will receive excellent care; and will be vetted, fixed, and adopted. Little mama is doing well, isn’t nearly as feral as first appeared! Amazing what quiet love and caring can achieve!
Squirrel and Scrappy... I got to pet lil’ feral Squirrel all over, because her desire to cuddle with Scrappy while he was with me was greater than her aversion to human contact. She did give me plenty of dirty looks though...!
Happy Belated

Hello from quarantine!
It’s not a box, but my Dessy doesn’t care... it works for her! I’m sooooooo happy to be home with my fur-kids again!!!
It’s 2:30am and I don’t know what to do... my boy Scrappy is crying and scratching at the bedroom door, but I can’t let him or any of the cats in. I’m so jealous... no babies for us anymore due to DH’s transplant, so I live vicariously through my friends who foster!

I miss my foster kitties, big and small! It’s like a part of my love has nowhere to go.

This once feral tomcat learned to trust humans rather quickly when he was caught in a machine and mangled. Brought to our clinic for euthanasia, the surgeon chose to amputate one leg and repaired what she could. Three weeks later, I took him to his new forever home. Adopted by a vet tech, he is thriving!
Done! Feeder called me to ask for help with pregnant kitty, brought her to me. As I cleaned and flea combed her, this street cat laid still in my lap. This evening I took not-so-feral mama to be fostered through her kittens being weaned. She had gone into labor by the time she reached her new home.

Interesting marketing campaign... attract attention with the burger, stay for the heart disease study.
Our latest medical case, aptly named. Probably hit by a car, maybe physically abused, he dragged himself to hide under an empty house. A young woman heard his cries and got him out, found a vet by referral, fostered post-surgery (broken hip), and searched for his owner. I got to spend today with him, he’s SOOOOO sweet and cuddly! Transported to medical rescue for extended recovery and physical therapy. He’s not able to walk yet, but there’s hope!

Update on Honey the Chihuahua: she has settled in well at the foster home, and has a new friend in their fox terrier. I imagine he acts as a guide dog and helps her get around too.

My beautiful Dessy!
We’ve had her just over a year, since she was rescued from a garbage truck load dumped at a waste management facility. She’s still traumatized, but slowly we make progress.
I can hold her for almost a minute now, and she looks into my eyes. My reason to crow today is, for the first time ever, Dessy climbed on top of me and fell asleep on my back.

(and free entertainment)
Our once little, now nearly grown, in-house feral cat. She just never tamed down, even though she came to us at eight weeks old. DH can pet her, of course; all the cats like him. He named her Squirrel during one of his dementia episodes, and it stuck. She’s free to be herself, and we love her unconditionally. Life lesson there!
My favorite part of Halloween!
I was just thinking of this yesterday, but figured I couldn’t be THAT old... yep, I am!
I should write a cookbook:

Oh my gosh... what an amazing rescue! This young family started in crisis: someone trapped the terrified mom, stayed with her during the births, and rushed her to our rescue vet for an emergency C-section. A foster in our group picked up mom and babies in the middle of the night, took care of them all week, and transported them today to another rescue with an available long term foster.
A perfect example of It Takes a Village... and “you can’t do everything, but you can do something.â€
A nice long freeway drive today to deliver this 10 week old kitten to her new family! I usually work earlier in the process, during trapping and taming, and when the cats are fixed or need medical treatment. This was a special treat!

Since I’ve been driving even less than before COVID, I started volunteering to transport for cat rescue. Also a good reason to get me out of the house.
This is what the California wildfires look like above the clouds
Between being extra careful because of Covid-19, dealing with the economic shutdown, and the volatile presidential election, the wildfires decimating the West Coast got little attention at first.
We are safe where we are (or should be), as the Pacific Ocean is to the east and south, and we’re surrounded by asphalt and concrete. For us, the worst is ash falling like snow flurries, and needing to keep the house closed up tight. However, more and people I know in other areas are posting of being evacuated, homes threatened or lost. Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers!
had a rough day, but helped this young cat during labor and got her to a rescue for fostering.
I love updates!!! This is the kitten I delivered last week, totally at home and loving her humans. I can’t believe she’s just two weeks out of living in a colony with her feral mama and siblings.
This beauty was trapped and brought to clinic to be fixed and vetted. The routine scan showed a microchip, very unusual but always a hopeful sign. A few calls later, the frantic owner learned her cat, lost from a pet sitter’s house, was safe. We’re taking care of kitty until owner returns. I love happy endings!!!

I look forward to reading my great-grandchildren’s history books to see how life in 2020 is described. Then I’ll tell them how it REALLY was!

‘‘Tis the season for black cats! This little girl came to clinic for her vaccinations with her brand new owner. Can you believe it... this beauty is the one-day-old baby found alone on a sidewalk. Our fosters make miracles happen!!!

A litter of kittens came to clinic today for their first vaccines, and to confirm the sexes. Guess how the vet let us know who’s a boy and who’s a girl?!

Here’s my Happy Monday place.
Looks like Smudgey’s adopter is backing out... do I go with my heart and adopt her myself?
I’m sure you’ve seen these advertised... tempted to buy one to commentate 2020. Has anyone bought one?
May you have a good week!
I was confused... why am I grieving like it just happened? Why am I struggling so hard? I had to think it through. I had the flu, felt drained. I looked through all my photos, bringing to mind bittersweet memories. It was my birthday, no real world celebration. One year ago was my MIL’s funeral. And one year ago was the last time DD and my grandbabies were able to fly here to visit. Okay, NOW it makes sense!
I’m trying to feel the summer in me.
Guess how the vet told us which kittens were boys and which were girls?! OM Gosh, they were ADORABLE!
I’m going to visit Smudgey tomorrow!!!
No words needed. Please pray for us... our survival is at stake: socially, economically, AND literally.
A beautiful, imaginative paint job to brighten up a blank wall and the whole neighborhood.

The sign says,
is wondering if this dream vacation could ever really come true?
A good use of quarantine down time!

was happy to arrange adoption of this very sweet but fragile, special needs kitty.
Too many people don’t remember what a real war is.
It’s a little early, but I’m looking forward to the Christmas Cookie Exchange!

Little Goose, precious baby, is not fully recovering. He was the sickly runt in a feral litter. Multiple courses of antibiotics, with special food and supplements, improved his respiratory infections, but he’s still fragile. Vet believes his heart is damaged, and there is nothing more we can do; but that doesn’t stop our Goose from loving with his whole being!
Look who’s back: Cupcake! She was our foster kitten almost two years ago (but was adopted out by another group). Three months ago she showed up in a colony 26 miles away. Since she was very friendly, the feeders checked, and her microchip led back to me. She must remember us... right from the start, she’s on our laps or sleeping between us. Looking for her owners, and pondering what’s next.
Unexpected party crasher! My friend is substitute feeding right on the waterfront in the Port, and this bold big critter showed up to get his share!
EVERYBODY likes the hammock bed! Pictured are the three remaining from my foster litter, and an older kitten who’s showing them how it’s done.
The next generation, reporting for duty to better the world.
A reminder of the days when we women couldn’t have a credit card separate from our husbands, and dozens of other examples that changed with the foresight of RBG.
Fantastic easy idea for a catio!!!
DH & one of our recently acquired outside cats. Big tomcat was trapped and fixed, and I crated him at home because he couldn’t go back. Surly and aggressive, he wouldn’t fit into our amiable colony. He busted through the crate door and disappeared; but came back a few days later. I’m sure getting fixed helped his disposition, but DH is definitely the Cat Whisperer!

is sidetracked tonight... emergency foster of baby found dumped in a box... which is better than an alley or dumpster. Spooky is healthy and doing well.
I laid down and stretched out with DH for a break, and then received a call: baby kitten about eight weeks old, found in a box on the front steps of a halfway house... been holding her since! Mostly sleeping, with a few nightmares at first, but she’s doing well. Torn between holding her all night while sleeping sitting up, or putting her in a carrier.
This is how my garden grows!
DON’T FORGET TO DRINK YOUR WATER!
Even the small

I’m
Cupcake on DH’s tummy, enjoying the rhythm of his breathing. Kitty seems fairly unscathed from being lost or abandoned, except when I try to give her treats. She freaks out, reverts to feral mode. My poor sweetie...
Now you know.
For when you think your drive to work is difficult!

What’s her name, they asked, as I checked into the animal hospital ER for suspected poisoning. She was the only one found alive. I chose Nikita, a fighting name, a survivor’s name; but it was too late. The toxins had damaged her brain and she was suffering. The choice was easy. She joined her siblings in death, and peace.

Happy Halloween!
is remembering wonderful Halloweens when the kids were young.
I know most of them and use several regularly.
Somebody’s dressed up for Halloween!
loves to see updates on former foster kitties!
It’s officially October 31st!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃
I don’t know if the grandkids will be able to do any of the usual Halloween traditions this year. Sierra, age 5, is in strict quarantine because her teacher developed Covid. I’m sure DD & SIL will make today extra special and create new traditions.
Abandoned, rescued, and returned to us (former foster) via a microchip, Cupcake has befriended the cats in the bedroom, AND US TOO! Final decision: we’re keeping her as our own.
My latest fosters found a new hiding place... they opened the drawers on the vanity and crawled through into where the drawers slide. Looks like I’ve got some inventive kitties on my hands!
Her collar lasted one day, and this outfit was off and out of her cage in less than an hour, but doesn’t she look cute?! Latest foster #3, usually at the bottom of any pile. These kitties have really brightened a stressful time.
Squirrel 🿠looking to see where the dancers went (DWTS). Cats are always good for entertainment!

Last of the temporary junior kitten fosters. We’re making good progress, but she lagged behind her siblings. Tomorrow I’ll receive two more semi-feral junior kittens for evaluation, and hopefully foster for adoption.

is greatly relieved, even though this is just the start of what we need to do. Still, dear Reality, Welcome Home!
Ohhhhh boy... Look what I got! She’s the hissiest pissiest kitten I’ve received in awhile. It takes quite a bit to wrap her up - she’s about 8 months old, so no easy baby - but it’s working so far. At the end of tonight’s session, I stroked her paws and gave her kisses on her head... and she didn’t draw blood this time! :))
I love it!!!

I LOVE spiders! Not the actual spiders... creeping crawlies kinda scare me... but they eat all the icky bugs so I keep them around.

Remembering when DH came home to stay in April 2020. Since then, no 911 calls, no ER visits, no setbacks!
Cuddling with one of my fosters. Her name is Snowflake, but I keep calling her Sugar so maybe it’ll change. She’s the alpha in the cat room. I already know I’m gonna miss these kittens when they’re adopted!
That’s what I’d think when people told me how brave I was... didn’t know I had a choice!

I’m listening to Chris Cuomo interview America’s Doctor. Dr Anthony Fauci is talking about the 2020 holiday season, and how each family should do a risk estimate to decide what kind of gathering or non-gathering to have. They both opted to isolate. Dr Fauci said he and wife will do a group video call with their daughters.
May we all have a safe November and Thanksgiving!
Salem still looks rough from the beating he took; but our miracle kitty is not only alive, he’s healing! He seems to be regaining kidney function too, which is key to his survival. We have hope!
Contact tracing is here!

Another feral foster, hoping to tame her for adoption. After a long cuddle, she settled by the wall and stared at my toes. I have six now to tame!

This is Paizo, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge last week. During the Thanksgiving 2007 weekend, my son Scott helped his best friend & wife move north to a home they’d bought. They adopted little puppy Paizo and Scott told me how much he loved playing with him. He said, someday Mom, I’ll be able to adopt a dog of my own. Three months later, Scott was killed in an accidental fall.

LET THE MEMES BEGIN!
Taking a cat break ♥ï¸
Update on Salem, a friendly stray cat who was kicked and stomped to within an inch of his life: he no longer needs is supportive care, has regained enough kidney function to thrive, eats heartily on his own, and is beginning to walk around.
This is the power of love and patience and faith and hope.
One more cat save story... elderly outside stray began acting strangely, crying and yowling when it got dark and through the night. Neighbors complained, so landlord told cat’s human friend to get rid of him or else.
Long story short, I placed him (the cat) with a rescuer who adopts elderly or terminally ill cats. Vet check revealed cat is healthy, but the reason for his behavior is he lost his hearing; plus, he’s losing his sight. Old man cat will now have a wonderful safe life!
Another template to use for memes or online cards.
This is definitely me...

I’m noticing more cat themed ornaments this year... maybe it’s the cats we have in every room right now? Maybe it’s because our cats have given us so much comfort and joy, especially during the continuing pandemic.

Looking forward to cooking a more traditional Christmas dinner for DH and me, rather than Thanksgiving’s lasagna, as delicious as it was. The cats can help too!
Update on a litter recently pulled from a warehouse: three have tamed considerably, but this one - the smallest - remains a hissy pissy kitty. Not for long, I say. The foster is doing a GREAT job!
is sad... I took my foster Sugar to be adopted and I miss her terribly. I rarely cry saying goodbye, but I’m crying over her.

Oh my goodness... what a little love! She was tamed already, so I’m working on broadening her experience. She’s the littlest in the “fosters’ room,†but the most fierce. The other kittens are a little confused by her!

Two of our outside feral cats. Both these boys were fierce when crated, and became aggressive when I attempted to socialize them, but thrived when released. The tabby is new, but it looks like they quickly became friends.

This would be helpful in the real world too.
Millie, a pit bull Australian sheepdog mix who is an amazing kitten whisperer! She corrals, guards, cleans, stimulates, and moves them. She’s saved dozens of bottle babies in her young life... when they are failing, as abandoned babies are wont to do, and human intervention isn’t working, Millie takes over.
It’s the weekend, and cats cats cats as usual for us; but a fellow rescuer is bringing four 10-week-old kittens for evaluation, AND staying for a visit (she’s here regularly because she cleans our house). I LOVE that age, and working on socializing them!
Sugar and Coco, my fosters sent for adoption, were adopted the first day they were eligible! (Love my Sugar!)
Two vets and dozens of experienced rescuers don’t know why this happened: 10 week old kitten’s eyes suddenly dilated and did not return to normal. Siblings are healthy. No other symptoms, none! It didn’t take long for her to become blind, and we were helpless to stop it. However, she adjusted fairly quickly, and remains playful and happy. A friend adopted her, and she’s being loved like crazy!
is saying good-bye to these two fosters. They’ve come a long way since being trapped, and I look forward to seeing updates in their new homes!
After feeling dead tired last week, I suddenly developed a high fever and massive body aches... DH is NOT the best nursing partner, so it’s been a challenge. I ate a little today, and can sit up. Fever breaks and resurges. No room at ER, all hospital beds full, and I couldn’t have sat up waiting in the ER anyway. 911 was always there in case, but I made it through and am going to Urgent Care Monday. I hate losing days worth of time!
I decided to call my doctor’s office (I know, DUH) to tell them I was sick with Covid symptoms, but I didn’t know where to go for help. Turns out they have an amazing support system and testing program in place! I hope it’s like this all over the US, even though we got off to a rough start. I’m going tomorrow to get my oxygen checked and tested for flu, strep, and Covid.
Ding Ding Ding...
We have a winner!
Kidney infection.
My kitties are fine, DH is more attentive, I just got a new antibiotic to take, I’m REALLY missing DD & my grandkids, friends are bringing groceries and dinner, and I’m about to finish my third kitten adoption this week. Life’s good!
wishes you a Merry Christmas!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Waiting for Santa, how ‘bout you?
Oh thank goodness...
I wouldn’t want to run

My last foster kitten was adopted yesterday by a single mom, a nurse working terribly long hours. She’s picking kitty up tonight as a surprise for her son! They’ve been planning to adopt for over a year, so she’s REALLY excited...
It feels like Christmas!
Wishing you a happy and peaceful Christmas and holiday!

is aiming for these daily goals:
Look who’s learning to trust the human touch... who is scared, very scared, but lets me pick her up and hold her. (DH can rub her ears now!)
FIONA!
She spent the last two evenings in bed cuddling with me. Tonight she met a few of our cats, at arm’s length. No fussing, only curiosity.
Trying to post a better picture of Fiona... one that’s right side up, at least! Mama Fiona’s gone from first time ever being petted to cuddling together in two months. This fills an empty spot inside me.

SUNDAY, SEP 22!
It’s soccer season again, and we are so sad to be missing GD Kaile’s games! After spending her freshman year on the varsity team, she wanted more of a challenge and joined an advanced level sports league. DH is not well enough to attend their weekend tournaments and travel the distances required.
These seven kittens ended up a group project, a perfect example of how networking among independent rescuers like me can reap great rewards!
Did I mention I am REALLY looking forward to Halloween?!!!

Why yes, I am looking forward to Halloween.

& DH are mourning the death of his Mom on Friday. She was 91 and had Alzheimer’s, but it was still unexpected.
Look at my beautiful feral Tuxie boy!!!! Out from under the bed and couch, willing to sit closer to me every day and watches me closely. I talk to him all the time, and he’s learning what I’m saying. Tonight he got up on the bed next to me for treats. Some day I’ll be able to hug him!

Tonight we received an unexpected call: DH's Mom passed away peacefully during an afternoon nap. Yes, she was 91 and had severe Alzheimer's, but I was sure she would outlive DH. The blessing is, of course, she didn't know about his suffering.
Oh noooooo...! Look what a friend sent me in a text asking for help with kittens in a warehouse by the port. Go ahead and trap him, I said... I’ll figure it out!
Hello Squirrel!
I love you sweetie!
Hello Squirrel!
I love you sweetie!
Look at our little Squirrel! Three days ago, I couldn’t get near her; and if I did get close enough to touch her, she scratched the heck out of me. Then I started taming her in earnest instead of letting her run wild with our other cats. What a difference! I’m so happy she will be adoptable and find a good home. Her unusual markings are called tabico, a calico with tabby stripes.

This frightened young cat was saved from a colony, and gave birth the first night with her foster; only two of her six premature babies survived. Now two weeks later, the babies are thriving, and the mama is showing trust to her human!
I was having a VERY rough day, so went to the Port to be near the water. Had a good cry, pulled on my big girl panties, and went back to my life.

Took a break this afternoon and stopped in at this local park. It’s huge, with a beautiful lake, and newly renovated. A hundred years ago, the City of Los Angeles planned to expand the natural harbor between Long Beach and the Peninsula by dredging a deep channel north towards downtown. The project was abandoned when it became too costly, but what had already been dug eventually turned into the lake.
FYI: a helpful chart.

I did it!!! I couldn’t wait any longer, I had to pick him up no matter what happened!
This is White Fang, who growls and twitches when I touch him, and repels contact with anyone else. I’ve had him about six months, have to keep him crated. He now gets along with my cats - they play through the bars - AND uses a litter box. I don’t know what his future will be, but it won’t be as coyote food!

A wonderful memory: our now grown Scrappy with his siblings when they were little kittens with their mom and being fostered in our bathroom.
I’m curious how this photo will post. It’s a panoramic shot of our Port of Los Angeles across the harbor to the cranes in the Port of Long Beach.
This IS my last kitten for a long time. DH is almost stable enough and post-transplant long enough to come home. I’ll be finishing up reconfiguring the house so DH has 100% cat free zones, but our kitties have good places of their own.
Better look at baby Max when he was out of his playpen and running around. Here he meets Cupcake.
I got distracted by this little fella... he was gonna be fixed and released, but I couldn’t let them. Brought him home to tame him, and he’s with a new foster now!
It was a three ring circus this morning as the baby kitten was let out to explore, and the older cats had a blast chasing and playing with him.

A found singleton about five weeks old, very scared and hiding too well at his first foster home. After DH’s long clinic day at USC Transplant tomorrow, this fella will get plenty of interaction with me; in the meantime, a friend is coming to spend the night with him.
One last cat photo! Here’s Tuxie, my adorable dopey feral junior kitten who has been loose in the house. No longer living under our couch, he hangs out with our cats and watches me intently. (He is on the arm of a chair with old man George.)
My feral white foster cat finally has a name: White Fang. We moved him to the living room and - now that he uses the litter box - gave him a comfy soft bed. I never saw him so happy!
My first night at the house in over a month... on the bed are two crates for a feral cat and a baby kitten, and surrounding my space on the bed is every other cat except a feral tuxedo loose in the house. P.S. Had a great night’s sleep!
Two of the kids on the TV stand in the bedroom, keeping me company on my night at the house.
Well, okay... maybe one more kitten. Babysat this sweetie for a day while getting him neutered for his new parents.
says... okay, one more kitten. (He will go to his new home soon.)
Looking back for happy memories of this very rough Kitten Season... this mom had her last litter in my bathroom after being trapped. The babies were adopted; mom tamed with me, and hopefully will find a new home too.
I think I am pretty much finished with kittens for now. I accepted a high risk litter, and they were doing well. Two good rescue friends stepped in while DH was in hospital. Then, within one day, we lost them. Today the last baby died in my arms... it’s too much.
Another chaotic weekend... less than 24 hours after getting DH home from hospital, we were back at emergency for different complications. Hours after we got home from that, I learned my high risk foster babies were beginning to fade and went to help rescue friends who have been covering for me.
is pretty much finished with kittens for now... I accepted a high risk litter, with help from friends all were well. Today the last one died in my arms... too much loss.
was happy to work hard at our house and have time with our kitties!
had quite a week... first losing Dinky, then DH and I spent two days at USC Transplant coping with side effects of his new meds.

DH & I just spent two days at USC Transplant. First at his regular weekly checkup, where my urgent concerns about his drastic weight loss and failing strength were taken seriously. Then for hours at their emergency clinic, where they couldn’t stabilize him; until finally he was admitted to Keck Hospital. It was a long night, but FINALLY this afternoon the treatments took effect. I brought him home tonight.
saying goodbye to Dinky, Scott’s kitten in a tree he died saving. She’s been mine almost four years. Now Dinky and Scott are together.
So, the elusive pregnant mom cat got herself caught in a regular trap set up for the toms on the other side of the property... and just in time! She delivered four kittens, and everyone is healthy!
I'm looking for a good home for our nursing queen, who has nurtured a dozen orphans in addition to her own litter, and who will happily raise more! Three months ago I made the expensive decision to save Barbara and her babies via a C-section, and I could not be more thankful for the outcome!
is searching for a good home for our nursing queen mama who has nurtured a dozen orphans and will happily raise more baby kittens!

Some of the bottle rockets literally shake the house...
I cannot imagine what the animals are experiencing.
is spending more time with our kitties at home as DH’s health stabilizes.

July 4th will be here soon! This is a program any animal shelter can organize given enough interest. Be there for these already traumatized cats and dogs, to distract and soothe them through the fireworks.
Works for me!!!
I know my schedule has been crazy lately, but this pregnant cat cannot wait! Trappers have been unsuccessful, so I will join them tomorrow with a drop trap and give it a go... plus I can teach them how to use it for future captures.
Where I want to be when June gloom ends and the summer heat arrives!
is missing my kitties SO much! Here is Zorra, sleeping in DH’s hat. I know they all terribly miss him too! It will be a couple of months before he can be with them again.
I never thought I would ever be this happy again to hear I PEED! DHs new kidney is starting to function!!!
I put off adopting out Squirrel and her sister Zorra, because our cats all love them (especially Scrappy!), but the time has come...
A Loving Tribute more than 100 years old.
Baby is doing FANTASTIC! After weeks in the NICU, she is home from the hospital and has started life with her amazing family! It will be a Godsend to watch her grow up and be a part of her life!!!
We had a CRAZY busy day yesterday... DH was released from the hospital just 4-1/2 days after receiving a kidney transplant. He is doing GREAT! I don’t know if I’m excited happy or scared out of my mind!

Looking good! DH with his DD and Aunt, three days after he received a kidney transplant!
R.I.P. precious baby Wally Skunk... Was it because too many fleas caused irreparable damage? Was it me being gone from home so much with DH in hospital? Or was it just too rough a start in life... We were cuddled together and he died in his sleep. I found him when I woke up.
Coming home late at night, I got lost in downtown Los Angeles when a freeway transition ramp was closed. Thank goodness for Google Maps and nearly deserted streets! PLUS, I got to see the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Being lost in downtown LA was no fun, but I got to see the unusual Walt Disney Concert Hall.
is learning to deal with a lot of changes headed our way after DH received a new kidney!
Thinking of names, something related to skunks or to walls. First, he looks like a skunk, and second, that’s where he was found. (People heard mewing, searched for the source, and chopped a hole in the wall of their garage to get him out.)
Old man George checking out our new foster, a tiny orphan found inside a wall, who is staying on our bed or in our arms for the time being.
is happy DH is feeling well enough to help me while I am sick, especially with this new orphan found in the wall of a garage.

A wrigglily cuddley pile of kittens just about ready for adoption! This is nursing mom cat Barbara's current group of mischievous fun makers.
Amazing Queen (nursing mother) Barbara has nurtured her own six kittens plus five orphans, and seems to enjoy it every bit as much now at seven weeks as the first. We hope to find a large rescue group who will give her a pampered life, full of orphaned babies who need love and milk.
has had to stop trapping for awhile, but happily can help others who trap to get the cats spayed/neutered!
I had to separate mom Goldie from her kittens, who are now big enough to be adopted. She tamed well and can be adopted too. It’s a happy ending in the long run, but for now she wails all night for hours for her babies. I get out of bed and hold her, she clings to me and it breaks my heart, but what else can I do?
Although we greatly appreciate these kittens arrived healthy and well socialized, we do NOT condone them being left on the porch during the night sealed inside a cardboard box (thank God there were air holes). I took them to our local shelter, they were adopted in one day.
I need a few shots of this to keep me going... I waited too long to go to Urgent Care, and a simple UTI became a serious kidney infection.
My biggest weakness: cake, and memes with kids and critters!
My dear friend required a C-section several weeks before her due date, but Baby is doing well! Three pounds, but breathing on her own, and beginning to eat enough to remove the tubing.
loves my friend’s front yard, especially the honeysuckle. I wish I could share the intoxicating smell!
This is Cassie, a once feral mom whose kittens have been adopted. It took awhile, but she let go of her fear and now loves to cuddle. Next step: adoption!
is gearing up for a busy physical day Thursday: deep cleaning the master bath to move Silvie and her kittens from a crate to a room.
Seriously, I was gone for five minutes and the cats took over my side of the bed!
View from the back patio of a home for sale up on the Peninsula. I trapped the former owner’s outside cats so they could be moved. By pick-up the next day, I was petting both of them! I hope their memories of being a pet help them adjust in their new home.
A typical nighttime visitor to one of my feeding stations, but this big raccoon had no fear and continued eating.
is missing DD in Colorado, and DS in Heaven.
This mama cat was once a wildly feral serial producer of kittens, only one of whom survived. Now she is affectionate and enjoys living indoors, an excellent mom! She nurses ten kittens, her six and four orphans.
I couldn’t be prouder of my SIL, an RN in a hospital ER and Trauma Unit, AND of DD, who was the main breadwinner as he went to nursing school full time. Hard to believe he graduated over four years ago!
These are untamed junior kittens who are loose in our house. One got away from DH during a transfer, the other learned how to unlatch his crate. Tonight they sat quietly looking out the window.
I wanted to snap a few photos of my feline foster family before taking Mom Goldie to be spayed. This one is a keeper!
is going to miss this little family... they’ll be moving on to adoptive homes in 2-3 weeks.
had a long emotional night, starting with a badly injured young cat and having to make the decision to put her to sleep.
Another long, emotional night in cat rescue: answered a shout out for help with a badly injured young cat, got her to emergency vet, had hope as she seemed to bounce back, settled her here with me expecting to long term foster, and then she had a massive seizure. We had to let her go to the Rainbow.
This is SO me!

It's exciting to watch a dear friend and her husband grow from being newlyweds, creating a loving and stable home, to expecting their first child!
The month of May is almost here, and with that comes dozens of advertisements for Mother's Day... an excruciating mix of Joy and Sadness, Blessings and Grief.
In case you remember my goofy, fun loving, one-eyed, brain damaged foster kitten Bella, she is doing FANTASTIC with her new mom! I just got a current photo and update: she LOVES playing with their dogs, and sitting up high surveying her kingdom!!!
Our Scrappy boy and little foster Squirrel wait for DH to come home from dialysis by snuggling on the shirt DH slept in.
I am proud to be a part of the Awesome A Team on the 5% Challenge! We have bounced back from a few rough seasons, and are working hard as a team! [Patricia, we miss you!!!]
One way to change your perspective.
loves waking up to this view! My two old men, DH and George.
Newest possible foster babies.... gotta find a place for them first!
Woke up from a nap
and what did I see?
My two old men
sleeping with me!
is EXCITED & NERVOUS about our first outing with this new Mobile Adoption Bus!!!

Silvie finally had her babies, six healthy kittens!
This little feral tuxedo figured out how to unlatch the door on his crate and is loose in our house. He is a good boy, uses the litter box, hides during the day; but every night he gets closer to me and is more relaxed. Finally got some photos!
Happy Easter! I think next year, youngest GD Ryan will better appreciate the holiday.
I LOVE THIS MARKETING CAMPAIGN!
is sad I could not be with my DD and grandbabies for Easter. Thank goodness for FaceTime!
was sidetracked Friday by taking care of this little boy before surgery for a mangled tail... too late, sepsis, RIP sweet baby!
This is the other mom cat I am fostering. Silver tabby, exceptionally sweet, the most pregnant cat I have ever seen in my life! Her nipples are extended, and you can feel the babies, so she really is pregnant... we will see!
Just one of the pregnant mommies our rescue has trapped and litters saved from most likely horrific deaths outside. This quiet, cautious girl is my catch and staying with me!
These two sisters are ten weeks old and ready for adoption! We let them out with our cats in the house after being crated for three weeks. It is SO nice to have little cuddlers to offset the ferals in my care.
Scrappy meeting Chevy for the first time.
Chevy and Scrappy meet.
Scrappy and his adopted baby Chevy, nearly the same size.
RIP our dear Chevy! He played with and chewed on jade plant leaves that were brought in on our shoes during a rainstorm, and died from their poisonous effects.
The kids listening to raccoons chatter outside late at night.
Here’s our sweet goofy Scrappy by DH’s side, where you will find him whenever DH is sick.
Believe it!
is trying to keep up with all the cat related tasks to be done.
doesn’t know why I’m missing DS Scott more and more lately... 11 years and it feels like last month.

My mom-and-litter fosters are doing GREAT! The babies’ ears are open now, so they can see and hear. They are exploring more as they get better at toddling around. LOVE seeing them grow up!!!
Driving home down the 5 and 405 freeways through Los Angeles. The bottom photo is The Getty Center.
said goodbye to these beautiful toms and two other feral cats when I transported them to a forever home north of here. They braved the freeways well... wishing them all the best in their new home!
One of my favorite fosters!
This big beautiful chocolate Siamese was trapped this week, but I didn’t return him to the colony as planned. He hasn’t hissed once, and lets me pet him, so... meet my newest foster, Hershey!

My young feral boy had a full flea combing today and then fell asleep on my lap!
Time for evaluating kittens as they near weaning time and prepare for adoption. Noooooo problem with these perfect baby boys! First time foster mom did an AMAZING job!!!
While it is Kitten Season, our efforts continue with all cats. This boy is a long term foster who came to me, and remains, extremely non-socialized. With his white fur and skin, he’s a sitting duck for coyotes and at risk for melanomas. Wish me luck!
Such a terribly hard decision to make! Spend an enormous amount to save mom and babies, or kill them and not have the debt hanging over our rescue. I had to make the choice... Hopefully our fundraising will cover the cost of surgery.
is still recovering from long days and sleepless nights, but it is worth it!
I had to pull over and grab a photo of the Port, on a beautiful early morning.
GD Sierra is four years old! How did that happen?!?
My beautiful George keeping me company while I rest in bed.
DH cuddling with the tortie orphan while sister calico plays in their crate. They’re growing fast, but so far adopters wanted one or the other, and I’m not separating them.
Our next target... Low & Wide, her feeder says, ready to pop any day.
Our beautiful little feral is a great mom to her three kittens, and allows me full access to her crate to clean and feed, including petting her! Babies are eight days old today.
is sooooo relieved... DH is feeling so much better!!!
is happy this beautiful boy won’t be making any more babies.
MOTIVATION!
Do you know the answer?!
(Cue the score from Rent)
is still giving semi-feral mama a lot of privacy and space as she nurtures her three babies, now three days old!
is still giving semi-feral mama a lot of privacy and space as she nurtured her three babies, now three days old!
Tonight I accepted responsibility for these two orphans. It was a nice break to spend time just holding and playing with them! I’m sure they’ll be adopted quickly.
After an extremely long hard day, bedtime was postponed when Mama Kitty started giving birth... I’m not gonna push taking a lot of photos, but here’s a start.
has foster cats in literally every single room! These two orphans came tonight, but I’m sure they’ll be adopted soon.
made one last check on my pregnant cat before bed, and... mew mew mew!
is on Baby Watch!
All a matter of perspective!
is wearing the green today!
On St Patrick’s Day, we’re all a little bit Irish!
Another cuddly night with old man George kitty! This is getting to be a habit!!!
I trapped this trap savvy, too stubborn for her own good, very pregnant cat on Friday night. The expected foster home fell through, so mama kitty is set up in my spare room. We are on Baby Watch!
Melly was a long term foster, angry and aggressive. She made little progress in five months at three different homes, including mine for three months.
Then her foster mom adopted one of my former bottle babies, and I realized she was one of Melly’s kittens, taken away when they were on the kill list.
From that to a happy ending: Melly is now officially adopted and will stay with her baby!

The first litter of our kitten season is now four weeks old. There’s a pregnant cat in a trap in my kitchen who will be placed with a long term foster. She’s the 8th pregnant cat being fostered in our network!
finds it hard to sleep without at least two cats sleeping with me!

The girls helping me with paperwork this morning... besides chewing on receipts, spilling various sorted piles, and knocking over 32 ounces of water, they wee a great help.
One last lightning photo, showing multiple strikes off the coast, during a recent, extremely unusual storm. (Not my photo.)

Lightning storm off the coast, as seen from the end of the Peninsula. (Not my photo.)
Lightning storm, very very unusual for our area, striking near the Port-to-Port bridge! (Not my photo.)
Not sure what breed she is, but this young cat has the biggest ears I’ve ever seen, matching her BIG personality perfectly. I am very tempted to foster fail and keep her!
Love love love this furry guy! I trapped him last year, got him neutered, then returned him to his colony.
Recently trapped him again, because a rescuer saw his photo and asked to adopt him for their feral sanctuary! He’s in my bathroom waiting for transport.
One of seven pregnant or mom cats with litters being fostered in our rescue network. Trappers still working to save as many as possible, as well as continuing to trap feral cats for spays and neuters.

I'm wondering what my much missed, dearly loved son Scott would be doing today, his 39th birthday... I'm celebrating with precious memories.
is wondering, what would Scott be doing today, his 39th birthday? I'm celebrating with my memories.
Kitten season has hit like a tsunami this year! We are fostering as many pregnant cats and nursing moms with litters as possible.

I needed to add some funnies tonight, because it’s been a very hard, long day. It’s eleven years since life as I knew it was destroyed.

is trying to get through today.
is laughing... this is SO me!
Look for that precious, potentially life-changing moment!!!
This goes equally well for animal rescue AND living a healthy lifestyle... in fact, for everything in life!

is enjoying Valentines Day with DH and the kitties.
My rescue partner is responsible for feeding at least 200 outside cats twice a day. Thank goodness for donations, and volunteers to help with the labor of colony care. (My part is more trapping to spay/neuter, fostering, taming, adoptions.)
I was tracking a cat to trap, tripped and fell hard... got home and laid down, and look who snuggled up to keep me company?! (Old Man George!)
My granddaughters!!!

I have NO idea!!!
Now DH is home, I will be trapping again!
More funnies!
Laughter is the best medicine!
DH and George... happy the old man is home from the hospital!
We are as we see ourselves.
had a good day
A four week old kitten, saved from euthanasia at a county shelter, was fostered through our rescue network. She is thriving, despite her tiny size - at five months, she’s the size of an eight week old - and stubborn and spoiled and adorable. I had the privilege of finding Faith a family, and delivered her today!
My latest foster Lovie, a junior kitten trapped less than a week ago. This is one of my favorite parts of rescue, teaching these scared little kitties us humans can be friends!
Another successful rescue! The feeder/trapper wanted to get the only kitten in her colony out of there, hopefully to be tamed and adopted. Of course I said yes!
Trapping just ahead of the latest storm... got two of the five cats we wanted: a senior too trap savvy for her own good, and a new arrival in the colony who was being badly bullied.
has a brand new foster, trapped less than a week ago, who is taming quickly and loves to sleep in my arms!
is working with other rescuers to trap these semi-feral cats and get them transported up north to a safe sanctuary.
This magnificent lion of a tomcat is regaining strength in his badly injured front leg. Even though he’s been an outside cat for years, he uses his limited energy to get to the litter box in his crate. He hisses at us and recoils at first, but lets us humans move and comfort him. His new mom adores him!
Scrappy on DH this morning, telling me to go away and let them sleep!
My guys sacked out this morning, while I took trapped cats to be spayed or neutered. With DH recovering from surgery, I’m feeding the menagerie at home. Now Scrappy doesn’t wake DH at 6am to eat... they’re just buds hanging out!
Just one of the cat colonies in my area where volunteers feed and trap. Many pay out of pocket, and work all hours of the day and night to provide regular meals to hundreds of cats. My focus is trapping to get the cats spayed and neutered; plus foster to tame kittens and cats whenever possible so they can be adopted.
My wonderful Scrappy on top of the injured tomcat’s crate, keeping him company and napping together.
was happy to be part of rescuing this gorgeous old tomcat badly injured in a fight. It has been a long two days; but he is stable, eating, neutered, accepting human touch, and today I delivered him to a forever home!

Good morning, Georgie old man! Love to feel you snuggling at my back, rubbing your head against me, and laying your head next to mine!
A donation from a person who was moving, $40 to two handymen with a truck, a LOT of hard work by my rescue partner, and I now have a large cattery on the side of my house. We’re figuring out the best ways to use it in our rescue projects.
I hope and pray all of you experiencing sub-zero temperatures are safe and sound, and come through unscathed!
said goodbye to these fluffy adorable kittens, trapped and tamed, and now adopted!

This is a fun tee-shirt!
is feeling tremendous hope and happiness with this rescue kitty, Angel. Trapped less than a week ago, we immediately connected... Angel will be adopted out soon!!!
My cat family with me and recent foster kittens.
Try rescuing 20!

says, try having 20!
The taming is going slower than expected with the four feral kittens!
I tried to tame her, even just a bit, without success. She is tiny, 5# tops, with kittens as big as she is. Her babies are fostered and doing well. However, after 10 days of mom cat not using the litter, fighting to dig out of the cage, and aggressively guarding her space, I had her spayed and released her back where she was trapped. Telling myself it wasn't a failure... trapped four, saved three, and no more pregnancies.
My friend took her tortoise to the beach... he loved it!

I’m a helper on a rescue project (providing supplies and vet care) for an old tomcat who was terribly hurt trying to defend kittens in his colony. Trapped after weeks of hiding, rushed into surgery, his prognosis is good! We hope after months of being fostered for his recovery, Louie will want to be adopted!!!
Our now big Lil Scrappy and his foster baby Chevy - not so much a baby either - still Best Buddies!
is helping on a rescue project saving this terribly injured older tomcat who fought a raccoon to save some kittens. It took quite a bit, but his prognosis is good!

A big shout out to my exes... THANKS!!!

Four feral junior kittens were supposed to be a very temporary foster, but their potential for taming looks promising... I think I'll keep them awhile and give it a try!
My sweet foster baby in her favorite bed with her favorite mouseys, and very, very happy in her new forever home!

I and my rescue friends been searching for home(s) for these beautiful brothers for months. They were pulled out of a feral cat colony and tamed. Only nine months old, they’re already larger than most of my adult cats. Both solid black, Slick has medium length hair and Scruffy is long haired. They need more exposure, so I brought them to our excellent local shelter. Here’s one of my play dates with them.
is saying good bye to this special baby today... sad for us, happy for her!

Happy Birthday Baby Jesus!

GOOD MORNING...
Slow start today! 😉

isn’t going to visit DD and family this year, so I’ll be working cat rescue straight through... more time to think about the past.

I’M A RACCOON
Four tiny kittens, a few days old, found in a warehouse in cold and rain (the mom didn’t come back). Two didn’t survive the night, but the other two gained strength and are now thriving with a long term foster!
My niece inherited her father’s favorite working classic car 4, and has spent a year restoring it to pristine condition. I know my brother is watching over her and couldn’t be prouder! ♥ï¸
DH taking care of his foster baby! She’s just what he needs: to have a reason outside of himself to get up and do for someone else.
can't resist snapping photos of the windmills outside of Palm Springs... they're huge and go for miles!

Got a LOT done before leaving on a short getaway... like adopting out five kittens and one cat! Also scrubbed our big bathroom-for-the-fosters top to bottom, and introduced a newly trapped friendly feral junior kitten to his new home!
DH’s foster baby!
Right before I was to leave for a few days, DH agreed to foster a sick baby kitten; so I spent six hours that night taking care of her after he went to bed. (Totally worth it!) But DH stepped up and is taking great care of this much better fur baby!
The view from my room in Palm Springs... SO glad to be able to get away for a few days!

is away from home for a few days to work and relax uninterrupted... not a bad view!

thinks it's beginning to FEEL a lot like CHRISTMAS!
will miss this lil sweetie... her adopted family comes tomorrow. A special treat, playing Candy Crush.
is happy to see these kitties together! The kittens were trapped for their safety and to be adopted, but their mom is still out there. The tabby was ill, had to be separated from her babies.
Hugely productive day! Two surviving bottle babies to a foster, two kittens adopted, three ready for neuter surgery tomorrow, and trapped a feral for TNR!
Newest foster baby... milk face! One of four has passed away, and it'll be a wakeful night caring for the rest. Hopefully a long term bottle feeder will be found soon.
Turkey Coma or the usual Milk Coma? Either way, GD Ryan had a good time!

had a wonderful FaceTime conversation with DD & family, then received several photos. This is GD Ryan... she had a good time!
I woke up from a nap to find a newly trapped kitten sleeping next to me between two of my baby foster kittens. I had let him loose in the bedroom to test how his taming was coming along... I think he’s ready!
woke up from a nap to find a newly trapped kitten sleeping next to me between two of my baby foster kittens... a surprising and joyful discovery!!!
I woke up to these baby kittens wrestling next to me. I’d like to thank the mental case who kept threatening to throw them out, and the rescuers who dealt with her craziness and saved them. SOOOOO MUCH FUN!!!
PET SAFETY FOR THANKSGIVING
Thank God we are away from the burn areas. One positive of living in this concrete jungle, at the Port, and in the shadow of a high peninsula is, our specific location is isolated from many of California's typical crises (fire, floods, mudslides). Riots yes, an occasional earthquake, but other than air quality it's highly unlikely we'll be in danger.
woke up to these two baby kittens wrestling next to me
More shots of the colony feeding.
Helping to colony feed, one of 25 spots. Here gotta keep them on the west side of the open lot, because on the east side is where coyotes come out to hunt for food.

I'm getting more donations for my foster and family kitties! Most all took a turn in this cave bed, but it's meant to be for the littlest babies.
Newest arrivals... three tuxedo kittens, same litter, trapped at the same time, here to be tamed for adoption. From left going clockwise, these are their personalities: Protector, Curious, Timid.
has a fun project: three tuxedo siblings trapped at the same time, here for taming!
A very special memory popped up on Facebook, and I decided to share it again on Spark. DS Scott found this heart shaped rock on the beach when he was eight and gave it to me... it’s been 30 years, and it’s still on my desk.
The kids having fun on the new cat tree!
Kitties loving the new cat tree!
A neighbor donated a huge cat tree for my feline zoo! DH & I got it just inside the door and said, that’s good enough for now... the kitties LOVE it, so we’ll find a place for it eventually!

A lap full of Fun!!!
opened the kitchen door and found a huge cat tree donated by a neighbor! Don’t have a perfect place for it, but the kitties love it so we’ll find a way!!!
‘s Scrappy and his adopted baby Chevy still close as ever, even though they’re both growing up fast!
Sunset (over the Port of LA, facing East)
Dessy's badge of honor: a shaved belly and a blue line tattoo to show she's been spayed... no babies for her!

is enjoying fostering this latest litter.
Six kittens in a box thrown over a fence behind a business... three survived, and came to me to emergency foster.
My GDs! At 5 months old, it’s baby Ryan’s first Halloween; but 3-1/2 year old Sierra is surely making memories. She’s a fire MAN (her emphasis) and is wearing her Uncle Scott’s fire helmet.
day 3300 of my streak for "Log in and spin the SparkPoints wheel" earned 11/2/2018
missed another Halloween with the GDs... hopefully I’ll be able to visit one year soon to go Trick or Treating with them!
missed Halloween with the GDs... hopefully one year I’ll be able to visit them next year
is disappointed the Dodgers lost the World Series, but very happy the Rams are still winning!
This would definitely be me if I dressed up for Halloween!
HALLOWEEN IS COMING!!!
This is a real decorated house! I took a photo of a news report, sure wish the colors came through like it looked on TV.
Two late nights... first, a long and stinky evening to trap this little terrified kitten before she was killed; and tonight, a loving and snuggly hour to rock her to sleep!
Meet Mackie, named after the bait used (mackerel).
READ IT AS USUAL, TOP TO BOTTOM, AND THEN READ IT FROM THE BOTTOM UP.
These two are the last of our original outside cats, Fuzzy and Mama. They and the rest of their family were living here before we moved in, long before I got involved in rescue. They were also my first two rescue projects! Now fixed, they reign over our growing outside colony.
Junior kittens literally dumped and abandoned in the middle of the night... but night shift workers heard, and called a fellow rescuer for help. Tomorrow, brother and sister get fixed and vaccinated, and I’ll be able to work on socializing them one-on-one for adoption. This is worth the hours of cleaning, laundry, et cetera!
Sometimes I have to remind myself there are little humans in my life who love me too... hopefully DD will be able to bring my perfect precious GDs to California for a visit soon!
needs a reminder there are humans in my life that need and love me too!
Dodgers going to the World Series, Rams undefeated this season, LaBron James joined the Lakers... it's a heady times for Los Angeles sports fans!!! (no, Walker Buehler is not related to my son Scott, but it's nice to see his name)
An imaginative ad created by their foster mom... these kittens are sure to be adopted soon!
HALLOWEEN IS COMING!!!
Dare I press "Print"???
Nah, I love'm too much!
Sad sad baby, so many changes for him and his siblings... first they lost their mom and then the giants kept picking them up and saying Awwwwwwwwwww!
A Lesson in Leadership & Teamwork.
I have temporary guests... who could dump this young family - mom, dad, two junior kittens - in an industrial area & burn rubber speeding away? No matter now... they're safe here!!!
has temporary guests... who could dump this young family in an industrial area & burn rubber speeding away? They're safe now!!!
Is it possible to tame this beautiful young Russian Blue? So far, it's not going well. He's not aggressive, per se; but he's absolutely miserable being caged, and I can't let him loose inside my house.
Another tough decision!!!
Here are three orphans - the two siblings I'd posted about before, and another the same age found in a dumpster. Brought to me for rescue, they're now with a long term foster; and as you can see, getting into all kinds of mischief!
enjoying socializing time with a brand new foster kitty!
I feel like I’ve been going nonstop, and it’s gonna be another too early morning Saturday AND Sunday, but I got a break tonight.
Spent a wonderful peaceful two hours with my newest arrival, a four month old kitten pulled off a kill list. He’s responding quickly... some more socializing and he can be adopted.
There’s nothing as suspenseful as waiting for a cat to take the bait... but it’s too light now, so heading home.
This is what passes for sunrise in the lower section of town. The Port is directly ahead, but barely visible. As you go west and up “the Hill,†the panoramic view towards the Port is 99% industrial but beautiful too.
Today’s emergency foster babies... the two are safe and doing well, hopefully the rescuer will be able to get the remaining four siblings.
My neighbor comes each day to help socialize the older kittens. This is Bootsie being introduced to the others in the “kitten room.†Very successful! Very happy!!!
Introduced a recently trapped kitten to the junior kittens in our large bathroom. All were very cautious and moved slowly, but who can resist a brightly colored felt ribbon on a pole?!
Just sayin’...
is sad their four siblings were lost, but these two are now safe and healthy!
HAPPY OCTOBER!!!
This BIG tomcat had surgery today... no more babies for him! Once he’s healed, I’ll physically introduce him to the other cats in the room. They’ve gone from mutual hissy fits to laying side by side and touching paws through the bars. A good start!
had another hectic week with The Cats, but extremely rewarding. This is our latest save!
A beautiful, feisty, loving, playful 10-12 week old kitten at the vet’s for a checkup. A young woman saw her being beaten and stopped to intervene - a huge risk, and one countless others did not take, When the person hung the kitten by her neck and walked away, thank God her inadvertent rescuer was there quickly enough to save her life and take her to safety. I’m glad our rescue was the one to help! (I’m responsible for the fosters, vet care, etc.) Kitty is recovering and has an adopt
Hanging out with the Port kittens the night before they went up for adoption. It was huge fun fostering them these past few weeks! In this photo, for some reason, my feet were very interesting!
A scene that caught my eye and had me catch my breath! This was the ending tableau of one of the dances on Dancing With The Stars’ New York Night. Amazing artistry and technology!
No words... :)
THIS IS DH!
Glue Trap Kittens, part 2.
I was called to coordinate getting the kittens from the neighbor who saved them to a long term foster at a rescue further inland. The best way to get it done, I drove them myself, with a stay at my house in between. Lost sleep and 150 miles later, I can’t help but think of how much joy these kitties will give their adopted humans!
More adventures in cat rescue... these are “The Glue Trap Kittens.†Feral mom had babies in an elderly woman’s yard. Neighbor checked on mewing, found several glue traps in the bushes. Homeowner planned to catch the kittens in the glue and throw them away... thanks to those who stepped into action (mine was a small part), they’re all safe and doing well!
Adventures in cat rescue... a five week old orphaned ginger baby came here after being trapped. He cried for hours, we held him as often as we could. After a bath and hours of flea-combing, followed by a very long cuddle, this happened!
WE ARE WHAT WE EAT!

Just got an update: this Before & After photo. She's one of five tiny kittens with mange who were on the kill list at a shelter out of our area. My partner claimed them, got pledges for the fees and transport, and found the foster mom. I'm helping with vet care and meds, and when well and old enough, their adoptions.
I had to make a hard decision regarding this very agitated, most likely very feral young cat and her eight-week-old kittens... This is their last night together, as the kittens will be adopted and Mom is TNRed.

While there’s no dog in our home, I have grandpuppies through DD & SIL in Colorado. Their two rescue dogs predate the arrival of my two GDs, and I love seeing their interactions! This meme isn’t my granddog, but it sure could be!!!
Being a part of the rescue community has been a privilege and filled my life with precious, innocent love.
Dessy waiting for me to finish working at my desk... my trash truck kitten, my special sidekick!
I was going through photos from last year, and was happy to revisit being a part of making this happen: an adopter specializing in special needs cats and dogs adopted an elderly dog with several health issues. Used SplitPic to create this Before & After... same dog, shelter photo and one hour after arriving in new home!

One of six cats trapped from Saturday night to Sunday night: a very young mom with two 8-10 week old kittens (reunited and safe in a crate in my kitchen), two for TNR, and an elderly male heading to a vet for evaluation. A busy weekend!
Starting a new large trapping project tomorrow in a local industrial area. Several people take turns feeding about 20 cats, and luckily they'll be welcomed back once they're fixed. (Photo is from trapping in the Port.)
Old man George stretched out next to me and old lady Dinky giving him the stink eye!
This is what I usually see each morning... Dinky's way to wake me up and say HELLO!
How I feel sometimes...
Newest little foster is flea free and loves being held and cuddled! I named her Charlotte.
is glad our new foster "Charlotte" is flea free and loves being cuddled!
This little girl was trapped tonight and brought here. She needs a good bath and a thorough defleaing, but I started with a long long cuddle. Hisses easily turned to purrs... after devouring a plate of wet food, she's wrapped in my shirt and sleeping. When I get tired or frustrated, this moment is what I need to remember!!! ♥ï¸
is up late again... this little girl was trapped tonight and needs a good bath and thorough defleaing... started with lots of cuddles and wet food and earned a huge purr!
Tell me... is it just wishful thinking on my part, or does my GD Ryan look like her Uncle Scott?
I think old man George is relaxed and happy with us!
I have to share the latest photo of my wonderful GDs!
is excited to help find loving homes for this sweetie and his siblings, plus two more litters who were trapped and tamed!

Little Bear is doing great!!! His long term foster mom is taking good care of him!
I've never been bitten this badly by any type of bug (in this case, mosquitos)!

is sharing this meme to celebrate the many kittens who have passed through my life this year who were found in like situations, such as our Chevy!
had a crazy cat week... 6 adults TNRed, 4 kittens trapped to tame for adoption, and ER foster for one day old baby!
My newest GD Ryan at three months old... I'm trying to arrange a getaway with DD and the girls before the holidays make our schedules even more difficult to coordinate!
Good-bye sweet baby Marmalade... it was a hard, long nine days, and you fought a good fight, but we lost.
I think you felt my love - I'm sure you did - but now you're free of sickness and pain, so run and play and be happy!

Look how my baby Chevy has grown! He and Scrappy remain as close as ever.
Feeling better after a 3am feeding. Marmalade will drop off to sleep quickly... now if only I could do the same!
My tiniest foster Marmalade is struggling to survive... the countless number of fleas on his fragile body literally sucked the life out of him. After several hours of care, he lifted his head, then pulled himself up and walked! He's tucked in bed with DH and me tonight.
IT'S FLEET WEEK IN LOS ANGELES!
We watched tonight's fireworks from our living room.
is so happy that DD has a wonderful family of her own!
My beautiful perfect granddaughters!
Four new foster kittens, various ages (5-8 weeks old), trapped in a lumberyard, and laden with fleas. All the bathing and flea combing had an extra benefit: they're comfortable with humans now!
DH helping me by giving warm cuddles to my newest fosters after their flea baths.
DH helping with newest foster kittens' flea baths.
Here's my kitty Scrappy staying close to a feral cat in a trap to offer comfort. They stay here for two nights (pre-op and post-op) to get their spay or neuter surgery.
is struggling to catch up with housework, with paperwork, with the many requests for help with cat rescue...
Two "orphans" found in dangerous situations - a car engine block and on the docks in a warehouse district - who were brought to me for fostering. Both were fully tame, and affectionate, so had to have been with caring humans for some time. After a month of stabilization, we put them up for adoption; they were claimed in one and two days! Be happy, sweet kittens!!!

Our new foster George, the most lovable big old cat I know. I love when the kittens run around and over him, and so does he!
DH with his new best bud, George, a 10-year-old male we're fostering. His owners recently dumped him and his sister by leaving them outside when they moved away. One neighbor knew and fed them, another tried poison. Sister suffered a horrible death, brother was saved. We named him George, and absolutely love him!

isn't sure when I will see these three beautiful girls again... thank goodness for Facebook & FaceTime!
has started a trapping project in the local community with other volunteers. Here's my first catch:
DD and GD #2, the cutest kitties I know!
One of two bottle babies I emergency fostered this past week. It feels wonderful to save them, to see them gradually learn to trust that big loud giant in their face, but it's exhausting too!
My GD Kaile, beautiful inside and out, on her first day of high school!
has said good bye to my four youngest fosters... soon they'll have their forever homes!
Many years ago, I lost 105 pounds, and maintained for some time; but eventually I regained every pound and more...
This is a small vision collage I made when I started on Spark. I kept it in a frame on my desk, and took it with me when I traveled.
I still use the mantra:
Losing weight is hard.
Being fat is hard.
CHOOSE YOUR HARD.
Tomorrow is Weigh-in Day!
I've chosen a name for the Siamese mix kitten with the large gray spot covering his nose: Smudgie! Thank you for the suggestions!
IT'S TOO HOT!!!
IT'S TOO HOT!!!
IT'S TOO HOT!!!
How did I end up with 20 foster kitties??? Four are going for adoption this week, four are ferals and will be released after surgery (spay/neuter), three go for adoption next week, and I should classify Chevy as our personal cat (not a foster)... that will help! These beautiful black panthers will be harder to adopt out... even though they're loveys!
has made the decision: Scrappy will be keeping little Chevy forever!
Another Scrappy and Chevy sleepy cuddle.
My foster kitten Chevy!
We're going through another brutal heat wave, with unusually high humidity.
Hopefully this illustration will help you drink enough healthy fluids to stay hydrated!

My wonderful Scrappy cat cuddled up and sleeping with Chevy, one of our orphans and a real spitfire! DH says we have to find a home for Chevy, just like all the fosters. *I* said, okay... but YOU get to tell Scrappy he can't keep his best buddy!
Three orphan foster kittens playing together, all ready to go to furever homes. Whoever adopts one of these loving babies will be very lucky!
This is so me... especially the music!
This is Star and Bandit's brother, a shy cuddly boy who needs a name.
presents Star & Bandit's brother... a shy cuddly boy who needs a name.
is exhausted after two sleepless nights... tiny foster kittens suddenly became ill, and I did all I could to save them. Star died this morning, Bandit died tonight.
has had two sleepless nights... two tiny foster kittens became ill for unknown reasons, and I tried all I could to save them... RIP Star & Bandit.
The recent newborns we emergency fostered are thriving with their long term foster family, including very productive dog Millie.

& DH are trying the best we can to nurse our precious Dinky back to health after a poor prognosis.
is feeling hopeful... another kitten saved from the engine of a car is here to be fixed and evaluated. He's doing well!
is tired but happy... these 2-3 day old kittens are safe now and doing well!
A midnight call from two street (homeless) people led to a middle of the night rescue of two newborn kittens. They'd kept a distant but watchful eye on the new mom with her babies, but then she didn't come back. Thank goodness they stepped up and reached out for help. Feedings around the clock are exhausting, but they're moving on to a long term foster. May they have long, happy lives!
... and then they both fell asleep.
Two of my foster kittens, Chevy and Destiny, fighting over Dessy's tail... I took some great videos too, wish I could post them!
is feeling overwhelmed... last Thursday I had 21 fosters here; 15 were kittens, so it's not as bad as it sounds, but still a lot of work. Now it's 13 kittens and 3 adults. It's so hard to say no!
celebrated DH's 70th and MIL's 90th Birthdays Monday and Tuesday.
I NEED ONE OF THESE FOR MY HOUSE!
The five kittens born and raised in our bathroom are venturing out and away from their feral mama. These sweet curious faces greeted me when I returned from my trip!

Home from a productive, active, and restful getaway to Palm Springs... time alone was just what I needed.
is missing my grandbabies... Thank goodness for FaceTime!
Fostering baby orphan Chevy is great fun for all of us, including our big boy Scrappy!
Our little Chevy is getting big... another few weeks and he'll be old enough to adopt out.
I am SO thankful for people who are willing to go above and beyond to save helpless animals! This tiny kitten was found in the trash at a waste facility. How did she survive??? How did the workers hear her mews?!? I'm happy to be her emergency foster. Her name is Destiny.
is so thankful for people who strive to rescue helpless animals. This kitten was found in the trash.
I'm so glad and grateful to be starting the Summer 5% Challenge today with the Awesome A Team!

This 15-day-old kitten squirmed his way out of the large carrier where its wildly feral mom has "hidden" her babies. First photo opp since their birth... a very grumpy kitty! Another frustrating and destructive cycle is broken: mom will have to be returned to her colony, but she'll be fixed; and the babies will be tamed, fixed, and adopted!!!
My Scrappy checking out our foster kitten... now to teach him that baby Chevy is NOT a play toy!

I've been having a very rough time lately... every night I say, "snap out of it already," but in the morning the weight on my heart feels too heavy to fight. This little baby keeps me focused on a positive, and helps to lift the gloom from around my soul. I'm still trying!
is having a blast with our youngest foster kitten!
I'm not sure what they did to my one month old GD to get this reaction, but I want me some!!!
I'm not sure what they did to my one month old GD to get this reaction, but I want me some!!!
I saved this meme because...
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I DID WHEN I SAW MY SIL!!!
Thank goodness for photos to reinforce memories! I'm in the red Sparkpeople shirt, with my two GDs. A wonderful time together, with pictures like this to share it with the girls when they're older!
So this happened yesterday... a kitten about four weeks old hiding in the undercarriage of a large truck. They heard mewing, searched but couldn't find the source, until they realized he was IN under the truck. Starving, exhausted, filthy dirty, he came to me... now he's asleep between DH and me!
Like THE BLOB!!!
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
Especially to those men who love and care for children who are not biologically related, and who teach by example how a good husband and father should act.
New GD Ryan! Hopefully, deep in her subconscious, something will remind her I was there.
Guess who finally forgave me for being gone so long? My sweet boy Scrappy!
says, Guess who finally forgave me for being gone so long? My boy Scrappy!
Willow by my side. Been in bed two days with high fever, body aches, sick stomach. Was able to sit up, ate soup and crackers. Fever down, feeling better.
Got home two days ago, completely exhausted, which a long night's sleep did not help. Been in bed since with high fever, body aches, sick stomach. Sat up and ate soup. Feeling better. This is Willow, sticking right by my side through the worst.
is at Denver airport 3:55am, catching early flight to go home to CA. Thank goodness DD is well enough to travel and is coming with new baby GD too.
3:55am at Denver Airport, checked in and waiting with the luggage while DD parks in long term parking and shuttles here with baby GD to check in herself. I’m coming home early, many reasons; extremely thankful DD is well enough to travel and coming too.
I love Schroedinger's cat, don't you?!
DD & SIL are dog sitting... he is as long as a full length couch, and not even stretched out! Very protective of the new baby; when I held her, he shielded me physically and watched for possible threats.
is having a Grandma and Sierra evening as Mommy and Daddy go out to dinner.

For comparison, this is me near my heaviest weight.
My first time EVER taking a selfie in the mirror... I didn’t know whether to smile or be serious!
is treasuring every moment with my family! DD, SIL, GD #1, and this our newest twig on the family tree, GD #2!
I told GD Sierra (age 3) how I wrap up feral kittens like a burrito so I can hold them safely and tame them. She took her Meow-Meow stuffed animal and tried to Purrito it! Her serious face is her telling the kitty she is safe now, everything is gonna be okay!
My one-eyed, brain-damaged, crazy sweet goofball foster kitten Bella, with me for eight months.
Remembering and Honoring those who gave their lives in commitment to our country, the U.S.A. "All gave some, but some gave all."
is SO incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to be with DD and her family during this especially precious time!
Thankful I can be with DD and her family, including 6-day-old GD Ryan!

is wondering, what is Willow going to do when I finally get around to folding the laundry?!
is finalizing the adoption of STORMY, the now six week old kitten saved from a storm drain.
Our baby Siamese rallied, ate well and crawled around; but it was not meant to be. He faded quickly, unexpectedly, and passed over the Rainbow Bridge. A short life, a terrible start, a struggle to survive; but his end days were spent full of love.

I'm tired... but greatly relieved! Our two tiny at-risk foster kittens are stable and getting stronger! We took them to a long term bottle feeder today. The ginger girl is two to three weeks old, and the tiny Siamese boy is about ten days old.
Here's our sweet boy Scrappy, who spent the entire night next to a frightened feral cat. She was trapped to be fixed, then returned to her colony. It's not ideal, but at least she won't add to the feral population. Even though the trap was covered, Scrappy stayed right there... he's a special kitty!!!
Another new temporary foster who arrived this weekend: "Figaro." Saved after being chased and trapped by large dogs, he was taken to a vet to be scanned for an ID chip. The "owners" were contacted and said they didn't want him... that's why he's outside. He's absolutely wonderful! Let's hope his next adopters act like real people with hearts.
Bottle baby #2, a mini-panther (all black) about four weeks old. People heard mewing near a busy street and literally looked for hours to find the source. They pulled him out from down in a storm drain, under the street, and brought him to me! After a tumultuous night shaking and crying, he slept for hours. He's a different kitty now, running around and playing. Time to tuck him into bed!
Bottle baby #1, who will grow to be a Siamese cat. Eyes barely open, maybe 10 days old... found stuck in a bamboo thicket this morning. Goal: survive the night!
New foster kittens, who came with their wild, terrified little mom... my hard job is playing with the babies to get them ready for adoption, and deciding when the mom gets spayed and returned to her colony.
is with DH at surgery center... but it’s a good thing! He’s getting his fistula repaired (damaged in that bad fall).
I picked up a new foster yesterday. Others saved him from a colony, terribly ill with mange. After seven weeks of isolation and treatment, he didn’t know whether to hiss or purr... but chose to trust us. He’s extremely affectionate and friendly, even slept with us. We doubt he’d survive back in the colony. Looking for his forever home!
Today was All Cats Day! I have the easy part: temporary foster and transporter. First, a too-shy-to-be-adopted male pulled from the Shelter. Then, a litter of newborns (bottle babies) found in a building due to be torn down; thank God the mother was trapped late tonight. They're with me overnight, I'll drive 80 miles tomorrow to deliver them to two long term foster homes.
A SUCCESSFUL DAY!!!
is delivering these two cuties for further socialization and adoption!
is glad to have Scrappy's company as I work on our tax returns!
Would this be the male version of a Crazy Cat Lady?!? :)
Housecleaning Adventures
When I started noticeably losing weight, people would ask me: What are you allowed to eat? Feeling controlled is a HUGE trigger for me. My answer: I can EAT anything I WANT... I choose to eat healthily. Truly learning that it IS my choice helps every decision.
My wild one-eyed foster kitty has become my shadow, playing with my feet when at my desk and sleeping nearby at night.
I’m getting better... great appreciation to the hospital staff! Doses of IV antibiotics stopped the spread of the infection, but I’ll know in 10-14 days if I’ve truly got this beat. Lesson learned: take cat bites seriously!
is getting better... great appreciation to the hospital staff! IV antibiotics finally beat back the infection... I’ll know in 10-14 days if I’ve got this truly beat.
is shocked and deeply sad... our sweet kitty Madeleine passed away in her sleep at only 11 months old. We knew she was frail, but expected more time...
It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share the news of my beautiful tiny cat Madeleine's death. We knew her immune system was compromised and she was frail, but still thought we'd have more time together... the friendliest sweetest cat ever!
is temporary foster for a first time young mama cat and six babies, rescued by my friend from a cold empty house... it’s Kitten Season!
Look who came home! DH is still limited physically, but stable and improving. Our cats are really happy he's home!
With DH unexpectedly in the hospital, my project with the feral colony is on hold; but these three now-fixed young cats are my guests in the meantime. I love talking to them, looking deep in their eyes, and seeing their recognition of who I am... and that they're safe!
is working on a new project: about 25 mostly feral cats, none of whom have been fixed. These first two are fixed, taming nicely!
is in bed, happily surrounded by four of our kitties. Whatever little Maddie had spread to the others. I think we’re past the worst of it, except for Scrappy, hit the hardest. Sleep well my babies!
Joyful News!!! When I checked on Madeleine during the night, she met me at the bathroom door; on her feet, walking around with her tail up, for the first time in two days! She spent most of today with the other cats in our bed (and with me). Can’t tell you how relieved and grateful I am!!!
Keeping watch over a critically ill little cat with pneumonia for the second night. She took a turn for the worse this evening, after the vet appointment; but holding her in the steam from hot water running in the shower eased her gasping struggle to breathe. DH was out buying a humidifier, I was SO scared! After eight hours, little Madeleine's breathing seems stable. I'm gonna catch a couple of hours of sleep... Thanks for listening!
I have to keep remembering this!!!
The hardest week of the year is finally over. Last week was the 10th anniversary of my beloved DS's death, and today is his birthday. All day I've remembered the joy of his birth, what a great kid he was, the amazing man he grew to be, and my blessed life with him.
Happy Birthday Scott, Forever 27 in Heaven,
WE'LL ALWAYS MISS YOU!
Swimming with DD & DGD in Palm Springs
is heading home tomorrow after an amazing week in Palm Springs with DD & DGD (pictured).
Enjoying a Greek yogurt mixed berry and kale smoothie!
Today marks the 10th Anniversary of my beloved son's death. At approximately 12:30pm PST, he fell to his death... a long complicated story. I'm away from home, with my DD & DGD, and amazingly calm right now; but I'm reliving each minute of that day. Our last words to each other, on that Super Bowl Sunday, were "I Love You."
CELEBRATING SCOTT â¤ï¸
Our new granddaughter will be here in about 2-1/2 months, joining DGD, DD & SIL in Colorado. Hopefully I’ll be able to be there for #2 the same as I was for #1!
is relieved and SO happy to have found a safe place for my Russian Blue mom cat, not tame enough for standard adoption.
I'm LOVING our life with cats! We had to wait SOOOO long before we could own a pet... adopted our first from a rescue three days after we moved in here. Now we "rescue"!
I'm trying to convince these two it's past their bedtime, but they'd rather hang out together.
Scrappy checking out Bella in her crate, and visa versa. Scrappy realized the door was open and jumped down. Finally, they meet without the bars between them!
Bella had a setback with the recovery from her eye removal surgery, so will be here awhile longer. Foster kitten Madeleine joined Bella in her crate, and they fell asleep together.
and foster kitten Madeleine. She’s a joy to have as a part of our family!
Update on Bella, my beautiful one-eyed foster kitten: she’s healing well, has become a kitten again, and gets her stitches out on Friday. Here she is kneading and falling asleep with her Mom’s shirt.
is having fun with Bella, recovering well from surgery to remove a damaged eye.
I'm ready to accept my punishment.
Update on my sweet Bella! Now that she’s out of what must have been terrible pain, she’s a different cat: SO playful, loves chin scratches and tummy rubs, and is excited to see the other kitties (and us humans too). I wish I could let her out of the crate, but it’s too soon. Thank you for your encouraging words and prayers!!!
Our beautiful new long-term foster, five-year-old Willow. Freed from her previous negative situation, it took some time for her to feel comfortable here; but now she plays like a kitten with our other cats, and has made herself at home. She tolerates me, but absolutely adores my DH!
has been loving on these two feral kittens to prepare them for adoption hopefully. It's going well!
... and the cat said:
Feral kitten Tiger took his turn with human contact for the first time. No more hissing and snapping when I reach in the kennel, and I can gently pet them without them running away. Making good progress!!!
Little Tiger decided he didn’t want his turn as a Purrito! Hopefully Siam talks him into it!!!
The socializing process begins... first human contact. It took the two of us to get him wrapped, and awhile for him to realize he’s safe, but those eyes bore into mine for the longest... Day 1: SUCCESS!
I love having a peek into our kitties’ minds!
has sent these babies to their new homes
What a week! We got SO much done: eight cats placed for adoption, with five adopted in four days; also trapped four ferals over four days, who were then fixed. Two were returned to where they were trapped, and two are staying with us to be socialized. Lots of calls and messages, early mornings and wakeful nights, but worth every effort!
& DH celebrating GD Kaile’s 14th Birthday!
My beautiful Pasha with Sardines and Tuna, the once-tiny wildly feral kittens we trapped, and whom I’m socializing for adoption. The Fish Sisters will be staying awhile longer, good little bitty company for Mom Blue as I continue to connect with her wild soul.
This is the last night Pasha will be with his Russian Blue Mom. He is being adopted by the family who adopted his brother Sasha in December... two is better than one, especially with kittens!
is looking on the bright side...
Finally, I'll be able to walk around the block!
DD & GD Sierra playing with Snapchat filters!
has the best "job" in the world... raising kittens and/or preparing kitties for adoption. This is Sardines, one of six fosters.
What a wonderful way to end 2017... a great example of teamwork! This junior kitten was rescued after a fight, and ended up here after veterinary care. As temporary foster, I took care of his recovery and checked his socialization. I had the easy job... couldn't have done it without my friend's initiative. There was no response to the Found ads, so this big cuddly softie is on his way to his new furever home!
I’m missing my precious GD Sierra and my wonderful DD... my trip to see them was cancelled due to DH’s hospitalization. Looking at dates in the new year to give it another go!
Speaking of socks...
This is my tenth Christmas without my DS Scott... I’ve been crying for days, songs elicit memories, seeing his fave movies and foods, so many reminders; but the laughter and fun of being with DH and family helped dry the tears for today.
No boots in the house this Christmas... DGS and fellow Marines staying together for those with nowhere to go this holiday.
is praying DH will soon begin to heal and come home from hospital to be with me and our kitties again!
A satellite photo showing smoke from the California fires blowing towards Hawaii. We live in a safe pocket on the small bump out of land (peninsula) between the smoke trails. Seeing this clarified how lucky and blessed we are to live in this concrete jungle.
One fire in Southern California continues to advance... this was taken on Main Street in Ventura. We were surrounded by fires on three sides (ocean on the fourth), but are in a safe pocket far enough away to not be affected (other than air quality). Prayers for safety for first responders and residents!
& DH have the hard job of holding, cuddling, and loving on these two newly trapped, tiny but fierce, wildly feral kittens... Sardines is adjusting, Tuna needs more time!
Wishing you all a Wonderful December!
Our latest foster, named Sardines for how we trapped her. Hopefully she'll be joined soon by her sibling, who was too small to trip the first trap. First human contact!
is counting the days until my trip to Colorado!
is sad to see these babies go, but happy to place them in good homes, and proud to have raised them!
Don’t know when or if our Marine GS will be coming home for either the Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays... waiting to hear on that and expected deployment.
I'm looking at old photos, feeling the happy memories, as a way to stave off the waves of emotions that are coming more often and more intensely as the holidays approach.
Next February will be ten years since DS died in an accidental fall, and I can't seem to get this horrific experience out of my mind. Here is my beautiful inside-and-out son Scott.
... and her protector Belle with the same!
WONDERFUL MEMORIES!
This is my amazing GD Sierra at a few months old, loving her new pink teddy bear...
Weigh in day tomorrow!
Wind power turbines on the way home from Palm Springs.
DH cuddling a then two-week-old orphan kitty someone had found late one night by a Main Street, wet and starving, eyes barely opened. After 9 stabilizing days with us, he went to his long term foster home. How can it be that we miss this little kitt so much?!?
My spunky GD Sierra (age 2-1/2) out trick-or-treating at a mall event. She had a blast!!!
More kitty pictures! This is Mom Blue with four of her five kittens, plus a tiny new foster baby (the black spot by the greys).
Heres our Mom Blue and one of her five kittens, now six weeks old. They’re Russian Blues: is anyone familiar with the breed? Do you know how I can learn from other Russian Blue owners?
playing with the five kittens we're fostering to give their mama a break!
I had an amazing ten hours of sleep last night! Good prep for tonight... I’m fostering a 3-day-old kitten. Hopefully Mom Blue will continue to nurse the newborn, and the older kittens will accept him too!
Parenting sure has changed since I was a kid!
I'm happily cuddling with my two guys... G'night!
The timing couldn't have been more perfect: we took two foster kittens we were hosting temporarily in to be adopted, and then I learned a long-elusive pregnant-again feral needed placement IMMEDIATELY... an hour after we got her home, THIS happened!
and DH took his Mom to GD's soccer game... MIL had a great time!
Soccer tournament, rooting for our DGD Kaile (13 years old). Great way to start a Saturday!
It's never to late to start changing your future!
... so THAT's what's happening!
My lil' Scrappy is a Pepper too!!!
Lil' Scrappy sleeping with his new Mommy (that's me!)
is happy our kitties are (finally) accepting their new little brother... I think we'll keep him!
How funny... our old lady Dinky is far more tolerant of new baby boy Scrappy than our first kitty Tabitha is... but they're making progress! â¤ï¸
This is why cats usually land on their feet: a very flexible spine!
Kitten Scrappy and DH share a nap... we're hoping he'll be a "foster fail," and we can keep him furever. However, Tabitha and Dinky remain iffy on the prospect!
I wish we'd been able to socialize our foster kittens' mother enough for her to be adopted too; but I'm glad she's staying close by, as she was before her pregnancy. Still wary and wild, but so very healthy!
Our sweet silly Scrappy boy
When we get home, we're going to physically introduce lil' Scrappy to our two cats, Tabitha and Dinky, and see how it goes. High probability - and my desire - is Scrappy will be a Foster Failure!
Digesting unexpected bad news regarding DH... had hoped his worsening dementia was treatable, but his brain is permanently damaged. Gotta put on my big girl pants and figure out another New Normal!
is adjusting to DH being home... this was the drive down from where he stayed in Arizona.

DH used a step stool to change a light bulb... went back a few minutes later to put it away, and found all four kittens had claimed it as their new spot.
Scrappy in mid-sneeze!
is going to miss these little cuties when they're adopted! Three will be going soon, two need more growing time.
walked in on the four kittens posed like this, with the two little ones asleep between the two larger kittens... grabbed my phone and snapped photos as they woke up. Success!!!

Sometimes I feel like this...
Losing weight is hard.
Being fat is hard.
CHOOSE YOUR HARD.
Fun in New Orleans!
I scared the feral mom cat, not sure how, but these two gave me dirty looks and ran to protect her!
is hanging out with the foster kittens and Sparking... I was in here earlier and we played until they literally fell asleep in the middle of it!
... and I dance in the rain.
Being honest can be difficult and scary; but no matter the upset and fallout, it's better in the end to face the truth and deal with it.
The issue of cyber bullying is a hot topic in the news, from young school children up to the President of the U.S.
