Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.

    1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.

    2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.

The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Spark friends are here for support, motivation and encouragement. Good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Again, welcome to the SP family!

Ah those pesky pounds that get packed on as we age and sit at a desk. You've come to a great place and I see that you've joined the new member challenge and you'll find that the others challenges are great.

What worked for me and for many is to see this as a lifestyle change and not a diet. For me "going on a diet" always meant "going off the diet" when I reached my goal. This time not much changed after I hit my initial goal - kept up the healthy eating and moved more and the weight kept coming off. I made small sustainable changes like starting to take a 10 min walk before I left for work. Then after a couple of months, added a 10 min walk after lunch cutting my lunch hour short. Found ways all day to walk since I didn't see how I could fit in a gym routine.

Of course, that changed when I had a heart attack. Fortunately mild and no damage but you can bet that I got myself to cardiac rehab three times/week after that! Now exercise is a non negotiable part of every day. I ended up losing over 80 lbs and I've kept it off.
    You can do it too!

The articles here are very good and you'll learn a lot about the healthy way of eating and how to fit in exercise. The community is wonderful and very supportive.
