On April 30, 2020, I celebrated my 11th Sparkversary. I did start out at 184 lbs in 2009 and am presently 158 lbs. Presently, I am struggling to lose weight because of the change in my diet and exercise program. Yes, I did put on weight since arriving in Canada, but I can assure you that what I have put on will disappear once I am in my own home and able to exercise. Over the years, Spark People has helped me with the following:

- I have become more aware of the importance of eating well and leaving junk food out of my diet.
- Exercise has become a routine for me.
- The need to sleep a minimum of seven to eight hours a night.
- The importance of staying active online because I am positive that I would have regained my weight if I had not continued on SP.
- The importance of food tracking on a daily basis.
- Soft drinks are no longer drunk in the household.
- Desserts are made for guests only and we don't miss it.
etc. (the list goes on)

Like many of you, I have had ups and downs over the course of this journey. I am presently overweight as per the BMI scale and I will continue my journey to reach my healthy weight.

The truth is that with the weight that I 'have' lost, I have found my self-esteem again and my willingness to continue this struggle. I even look forward to going out more and dressing up again because I can actually look better in the clothes that I have. That is a nice feeling... Truly, I will not go upwards again as I know what that feels like. Yes, with the weight on, I could still do a lot but my cholesterol was high and my BMI was on the obese side -- who's kidding who here?

Last September, I reached my 71st birthday and never did envision myself being a heavy senior citizen. Looking at my December 2008 picture beside, it was obvious to me that it was time that I got myself moving again and by doing so, it has proven to be beneficial all-round.

My Goals:
My goal is to lose the excess weight I have accumulated and get my BMI and cholesterol to healthier levels. I want to be a role model for my daughters and grand-children.

My Program:
I am watching and marking down EVERYTHING that I eat. I am exercising on a regular basis. Initially, I had scheduled one day off and now I find myself doing something on that day too!!!

Personal Information:
After having lived in West Africa for 45 years (all my adult years), my husband and I decided to sell our home in Dakar, Senegal and move back to Canada. We are now closer to family, but with this pandemic on, we are still unable to go and visit family members or friends. Thanks to FaceTime, MagicJack, Viber, Skype, I can communicate even more now with everybody.

    Hi there! I hope that you have been doing really great!!

    Thanks for the relaxation goodie for my hubbie's recovery, that was very sweet :) It's been a busy couple of weeks. I didn't realize how many things he helped me out with! Doing everything by myself has been an eye-opener LOL.

    Healing from the surgery is going well! We are hoping that it continues to be as positive as it has been so far!

    I see from your message on my spark page that you love dancing, too. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't share my enthusiasm about dancing, so I like zumba and just dancing on my own. He does like walking, biking,swimming, etc. We walk almost every day. emoticon
