Hi, all. I'm a 42 year-old preschool teacher who has struggled with weight for most of my adult life. I've never been able to stay committed to losing weight and in 2004, was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, (PCOS.) One of the side effects of PCOS is difficulty losing weight, yay. Three years later I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and put on prescription medication. Some people will say I'm crazy for putting this information online, but I needed to be completely honest and face up to what I've been hiding. Being blunt was the best way I saw to do that.

On January 1st 2009, I decided to make a commitment and stick with it after reaching my heaviest weight ever! I was 257 pounds and completely unhappy with almost every aspect of myself. It hasn't been easy, but I am still working out and eating healthier. I set small goals of 10 pound increments and my ultimate goal is to reach 155 pounds and maintain my weight in the 155-160 pound range. Though there are days I just feel like giving up, I'm not going to sabotage myself or deny myself the satisfaction of reaching my goals!

Update: I've regained quite a bit of weight, (see my blog for more details,) and I decided I've spent too much time look backwards at my past success, (and subsequent failure,) and maybe it's contributing to my "I give up" attitude. My weight: 226. My goal: 165.

Update to my update: I've regained almost all the weight I'd lost and I'm now at 241. In the past months, I've had a radical weight gain my doctor and I are attributing to something medical. We are still in the process of ruling things out and searching for answers. I started a new medication that caused the weight to pile on, but the gain has been much more rapid and significant than can be attributed to the medication's typical side effect gain. I am in nearly constant pain... muscle and joint aches, a general feeling uf unhealthiness and recently, a sharp, electric shock type feeling in the thigh of my left leg that goes on daily at random intervals. My goal now is to just stop gaining and go from there.

Don't give up !! Everything is going to be just fine ! Take baby steps, literally and figuratively. You are not a failure because you gained some of the weight you've lost, back. This has happened to each and everyone of us at some time or another. Don't look at this as a setback !!

Look at this as a way to reinvigorate your quest for good health !
