I started this quest yet again after several fad diets over the years. I’ve been overweight at least the last decade. First off I'm 5ft. 7in and when I started this I weighed close to almost 240lbs.

In September 2008 a change had to happen and I already had high blood pressure. I received my results of my physical and I thought I would still be on the borderline with everything. However unexpectedly my doctor told me that I also had high cholesterol also and I had pre-diabetes. My doctor stated that I was obese and had to lose 60 to 70 lbs. Not to mention, start eating right, and do some kind physical activity five times a week for starters. He also explained to me all of the issues that comes with Type II, but all I heard being a man was what could happen in my love life.

I was scared and in disbelief and shock of what I was hearing. But who was I kidding? I had to make a lifestyle change quickly. This was a definite wake up call for me and at the time all I could thing about was my kid growing up without a father. I'm thinking 70 lbs was impossible for me to do I had never lost more than 10 lbs at any given time in my life. How in the heck was I going to do this? One thing my doctor said to me was concentrate on losing "1" pound a week and in a year = 52 lbs. I silently thought to myself...I can do that.

I started doing research creating spreadsheets on my food and exercise regime. I was on various health and fitness websites and ran across a post in a usergroup stating that sparkpeople.com was better than the three other sites and excel that I was using. I created an account and
