Running into 2013!
My story: I started running on August 11, 2006. I was unfit and so unhappy. I was burned out in my job, fat, and did not want to do anything or be with anyone. I realized that it was up to me to CHANGE me so I decided to start running with my husband, eat more healthy, and change my job. I found Sparkpeople in July 2007 and have been here ever since. I ran my first Half Marathon in November 2008 with an ankle injury. Afterwards, I had to take 4 months off from running to fully recover from that stress fracture. I started back running on March 1st, 2009 slowly but steady. 2009 was a great "comeback" year for me. I ran the St. Jude Half Marathon and got a new PR in Dec 2009. In Feb 2010 I met my good sparkfriend, Gail and ran my 1st marathon with her in New Orleans. Many sparkers joined us in New Orleans & I was thrilled to meet each one of them. It's a memory I will cherish forever. Since then I have meet many other sparkers at different races. I love running with my spark buddies!
It's amazing that I am still running. Running is the only exercise I have stuck with long term. Who knew I would love running!
Quotes I love:
"It only takes one person to change your life... YOU!"
"The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare". Juma Ikangaa
"Nothing is easier than saying words. Nothing is harder than living them day after day" Arthur Gordon
"It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task, which more than anything else, will affect it's successful outcome" William Jones
"You are successful the moment you start moving toward a worthwhile goal" Charles Carlson
"You train best where you are the happiest" Frank Shorter
"It's not about speed and gold medals. It's about refusing to be stopped" Amby Burfoot
"Some runners judge performance by whether they won or lost. Others define success or failure by how fast they ran. Only you can judge your performance. Avoid letting others sit in judgement of you" Hal Higdon
"When I do the best with what I have, then I have won my race" - by Jay Foonberg - 72 year old runner.
