My name is Terri & I live in Huntington Beach, in coastal Orange County, California. I feel like I need to get serious about my health.

I plan to start the new year by continuing to eliminate sugar, walking more, trying Zumba-type exercises, and anything else that will get this sorry ass moving more!!

Goal #1 - lose 10 lbs by Valentine's Day. - Done!
Goal #2 - lose 10 more lbs by Easter.
Goal #3 - lose 10 more lbs by July 4th.

Member Since: 10/29/2010

Fitness Minutes: 224

My Goals:
I am a single mom to a teenage son. I want to lose 65 - 70 lbs., but more importantly, I don't want to be a victim of my family history of heart disease, diabetes, and other weight related illnesses. As it is, I am a klutz and always falling and hurting myself. (Think - Help I've fallen and I can't get up!)

My Program:
Baby steps:
1) cold turkey - cut out sugar - ongoing but on track;

2) try to get some walking in - park farther away from my stops and use the treadmill when the weather is nasty;

3) stay within my caloric levels - so far so good with help from SP!!!

4) eat more high fiber foods - ex. hummus with whole wheat pita for a snack - yummy!

5) stay positive and motivated - this time of year it is challenging but with the help of my new Spark friends, its easier.

Personal Information:
I am 59, work part-time as a bookkeeper, love living in "Surf City" but I don't surf. I make artisan jewelry with agate, jasper, freshwater pearls, turquoise, Swarovski Crystal, etc.

My website is: www. surfcitytreasures09.

    emoticon Hi~
    Thanks for adding me as a friend. My Friends here are my main source of support, inspiration, motivation, and encouragement! We have worked together through both good times and not so good times, but always been there for one another. I am pleased to count you as one of them! I added you to my list to make it easier to keep in contact.
    Stay focused, positive, and determined!

    Thank you for the kind welcome. I love this website and am enjoying exploring the recipes, comments and other features. I had a fall in Oct. and suffered a leg/knee injury, so I haven't gotten up to speed yet on my exercise. I love to walk, so I will do that as soon as possible - doctors orders. I love that I can track this too.

    I was a Weight Watcher online member, and spent $16 every month and never got into the habit of using the site. For some reason (because it's free???) that I am getting more out of this site. Go figure!

    Again, thanks for the welcome & support. Terri

    emoticon Welcome to Spark!
    I've been here since Nov. 9, 2009 and have really learned a lot about myself, food, and exercising. I truly feel joining Spark was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
    One of the best tools is the nutrition tracker. You will be shocked when you enter a typical day's food! Try to track everything you eat and stay within your limits. Don’t panic if you slip - we all do! Just put it behind you, you can’t change it, and move on. One of the main concepts at Spark is to take two steps forward for each step back!
    The fitness tracker is also a great tool. You can track your steps, mileage, cardio exercise, and strength exercises. It will tell you how many calories you have burned.
    Take time to make lots of Friends and tell them when you reach a goal or are having a hard time. They are here with praise and support all the time! Don't be afraid to ask any question, no matter how silly you think it is.
    Take time to explore Spark. Read and respond to message boards, blogs, and other members' pages. The help, support, inspiration, motivation, encouragement, and friendship you will receive is awesome! The site can be confusing at times but just keep looking around. There is really a lot of valuable information here!
    emoticon Feel free to contact me if I can help you in any way. Drop by my page to say hi.
    Stay focused, determined, and positive - you will be successful!

    emoticon Greetings and emoticon

    In my experience, SparkPeople is like a emoticon in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!

    There are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site.

    If you haven't discovered The Spark book and/or the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check them out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.

    emoticon

    Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!
